Not an easy read especially for those who think the incompetent, inept government has done it's best as Johnson would have us believe. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...n-the-covid-crisis?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
That is such a heartbreaking and, at the same time, an infuriating read. I have a lot of respect for Dr Clarke because she has been outspoken and telling it how it is for a long time, and she is clearly desperately upset by the continued lies from the government and the words and actions of the morons that won’t accept the truth about what is happening. The next honours list, of any kind, should consist solely of people who have put their life into protecting us from the virus, and not be made up from political donors or those from the sport or entertainment world. But above all they need pay rises and greater investment. Sorry about the political comment but I don’t think the pandemic can be separated from politics, especially with reference to the Guardian report.
Yeah, especially when your trying to get your political view across. But that’s ok, cos your Badger, and harmless etc. No politics on this thread - you have a thread sourly for yourself for that. Be a good chap, and stick to the rules - they apply to all
So where does this belong Billie? It, as St Bad points out, has political content in criticising the government's handling of the crisis but describes the daily anguish and abuse those working on the CV frontline suffer. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...n-the-covid-crisis?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other "I’ve been called Hitler, Shipman, Satan and Mengele for insisting on Twitter that our hospitals aren’t empty. Last night a charming “Covid sceptic” sent me this: “You are paid to lie and a disgrace to your profession. You have clearly sold your soul and are nothing more than a child abuser destroying futures. I do not consent to your satanic ways.” A friend, herself an intensive care doctor, has just been told by another male “sceptic” that he intends to sexually abuse her until she requires one of her own ventilators. And this morning, another colleague, also female, was told: “You evil criminal lying piece of government ****. You need to be executed immediately for treason and genocide.” "Worse even than the hatred they whip up against NHS staff, the deniers have started turning up in crowds to chant “Covid is a hoax” outside hospitals full of patients who are sick and dying. Imagine being forced to push your way through that, 13 hours after you began your ICU shift. Some individuals have broken into Covid wards and attempted physically to remove critically ill patients, despite doctors warning that doing so will kill them."
Simple - Politics thread. Covid thread to discuss Covid, without politics. Politic thread for politics, and for content that includes politics, such as what Badger posted. If you try, it really isn’t hard, unless you have an agenda. Which lets be fair, the usual posters in the Politics thread do.
Not so simple, this article is more than politics and needs to be on a wider platform. That's my view, you have yours as is your right. It's a heart braking read.
Well, and here it starts. Godders “**** rules”. You saying it isn’t politics The next honours list, of any kind, should consist solely of people who have put their life into protecting us from the virus, and not be made up from political donors or those from the sport or entertainment world. But above all they need pay rises and greater investment. Sorry about the political comment but I don’t think the pandemic can be separated from politics, especially with reference to the Guardian report. Yeah sure, no politics in this comment Catch you later boys, ive never been into voyeurism...
Oh I agree, and there is a fine line, but there is also a place for Politic related threads, hence the stuff about political donations shouldn’t be on this thread. I dont go ont here much these days, so I’m ****ed if i am going to tolerate it in a different thread - that is my main issue - not going to fall out with you over it btw
Do what you like pal, I wouldn’t read any of that crap, but if it makes you feel better, then good for you
Cheers pal. Registry office part moved from April to October. Reception moved back a year. Same weekend in June 2022. Will be some celebration when it happens anyway!
This letter from Independent Sage, pleading for a Zero Covid response, was sent to Chris Whitty on the 13th July, when the UK death toll was below 45,000.
I am not sure that you can rely on quoting a letter than is now more than 6 months old. The situation in parts of Scotland have deteriorated since this time and there are now signs that it is not the exemplar that it was back last summer. With hindsight, the government released the restrictions too early and I think this is something that everyone has recognised. Back in July, there was no vaccine and lockdown seemed the only measure available to combat the pandemic. I am not convinced that the government has handled this pandemic well but it is interesting to see how things have evolved since then with issues such as vaccine roll out which had ben dealt with poorly in Scotland. The ultimate proof in the pudding will be how vaccine roll out will be managed to deal with the ever -evolving strains of the virus. Without being too pessimistic, my feeling is that we are still a long way off a global solution. As long as the virus remains able to mutate in parts of the world less able to vaccinate it's population, we are going to remain at risk from new variants, any of which may prove to reduce the efficacy of the vaccine. As someone said, it is an arms race against this virus. For me, we are only as effective as the weakest country and the government's fears regarding the South African variant seem sensible. I remain to be convinced that any lockdown should be lifted before the beginning of the summer.
Sorry but we just can't be in lockdown for half a year. People will just snap after a while and do what they want anyway. There is no reason to be in lockdown when the over 50's have been vaccinated and the pressure on the NHS has eased substantially.
Certainly will be before Summer imo. People don't like to admit it but there's an acceptable amount of deaths here. And I think we'll have reached that within 8-10 weeks at the most. Regarding further variants hasn't one vaccine company said it will be relatively straightforward to amend the vaccine in future?
