A few weeks ago in regard to the potential of Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher said that "records exist to be broken". 2011 has been blazing many records so far with a few more still to come in this last part of the season. The links below show every F1 record there is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_One_driver_records Those last two made me laugh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_One_records What records astound you the most, which records will fall in the future and which records do you think will stand tall forever?
Don't mean to be a boring guy but, Redbull need to IMMENSE to beat Ferrari's record for WCC and Vettel needs to be IMMENSE to beat 7-world titles. Schumacher's name will forever be engraved into the stone as one of the super legends of Formula 1, he has time "yet" to defend or progress any records available, he still sets fast lap and leads races ... But he needs to do more to defend, as well as a faster car under in his control.
Vettel will smash Schumacher's pole record, he's well over a third of the way now I believe. A lot of those records are pretty pointless. Championships are obviously most important, race wins and poles are significant as well. I think streaks of wins, poles and podiums and records for wins and poles in a season are interesting too, as a signal of prolonged dominance and consistency. Ultimately I don't think stats are that important, but I'd like Vettel to match Schumacher's seven (beating it would be excessive) championships, I think he'd be a better ambassador for the sport.
Vettel has 6 years to break senna's record of youngest triple world champion. Plenty of time i'd assume.
Who do you reckon by the end f thier careers will hold the record for the most grand prix entered? Currently of course the 2 main contenders are schumacher and barrichello, technicaly trulli as well I suppose but I dont think he will be around much longer. I think Schumacher will outlast barrichello and beat his record as well which will put him at the top for many years. But then there is Alonso, Button, Hamilton and Vettel who potentially have a seat in F1 for as long as they want one, and they all started quite young and Button and Alonso have a fair few races stacked up already. I reckon Vettel will take that record as well
I think alonso will have that one. I can't see people like vettel lasting that long. That's the problem with modern f1 drivers. They enter the sport at a very young age, and peak far too soon, and then flounder in mediocrity for the rest of their careers.
I think Vettel will get 5 or 6 possibly 7! I dont think he will beat Schumis record because Michael had a lucky run with virtually no competition! I think Lewis will get 1 or 2 more and Jenson 1 more! Alonso will likely get at least one more also! If Kubica returns to the top after his accident, i wouldnt be suprised in seeing him get 1 or possibly 2 when he replaces Massa at Ferrari :L Another guy I would absolutely love to see get a title is Felipe Massa, he narrowly lost out in 08 and was quite unlucky throughput the season!
Quite a bold statement and one that could come back to bite you on the arse. On the other hand, look at drivers like Hakkinen and Alonso (so far) that have stalled at two....
Alonso was my reasoning behind the statement. A truly top quality driver, but forever burdened with terrible machinery.
