I'm tending to agree although I don't think we should tip the balance too far towards 'flair and pace'. Whatever the case we're in a situation whereby we have more than one 'game changer' on the bench. I agree, with many on here, that sometimes that game changer needs to be someone like Leadbitter who slows the game down or McGeady who can keep hold of the ball, and win free kicks, far away from our goal. In that way we can stretch the opposition and prevent an Alamo type of game whereby we're dreading a late goal.
I am about 40 miles south east of MK and the weather is canny, dry, no wind, mild and a hint of blue sky and sunshine, which probably means irs pissing down in MK
I don't trust POMO. A fancy lexicon is a poor substitute for true wisdom. This was published after he was discharged from his last post: "He received criticism from certain sections of supporters for his perceived tactical naivety and that he didn’t really know his best XI or formation throughout his period in charge. Whilst City could more than compete with the bigger boys in the Championship on their day, they were guilty of not imposing themselves on the perceived lesser sides and grinding out results needed to mount a serious promotion push." This is already starting to look all too familiar. Jones must start. He was pushed, shoulder barged, and grabbed - but never veered of coarse. Scowen and Diamond are easily cast aside by a one handed shove. And when it was necessary, Jones tracked back, box to box, to make an important tackle. It would be nieve of Johnson not to notice that the teams he selects are bullied match after match.
His only clear mistake so far imo is choosing Flanners over Sanderson, even so I understand why he did it, too early to judge whether he learns from his mistakes, but managers make them, and so far he has impressed me. I understand your misgivings, but I think he inherited the fear tactics instilled by Parky, which by the way is refreshingly absent from our U23 side under Elliot Dickman. Time will tell who affects who but I have more faith in the current set up than I have enjoyed for a while, and it sounds like the Academy is going to be a priority under LJ, which is good news and long overdue..
I like what he has said so far, he has a load of work to do, not just with the first team but with the academy etc after years of neglect. He's got my support until the wheels come off, the same as all of the previous managers have had. Under this new set up though, we shouldn't get too attached to any of the head coaches should we? It's more Speakman running the football side so the next head coach (please not soon, give us some stability!) will still need to fit the same philosophy.
I remember reading what the Bristol fans said about Johnson that @Hefty fullback mentioned but as you say he's a vast improvement now to what we are used to in terms of positivity and tactics imo. He wasn't a bad championship manager after all so getting us there and at least establishing us will do me for now. Also he is backed by speakman etc and the whole set up is improving. I can understand some people's trepidation but I'm glass half full here . Nobody knows the outcome but first signs are good so we have no choice to accept what we have. Which thankfully isn't another Moyes/Grayson/Parkinson.
There are some new hires over there, you should be apart of it! BTW: Does anyone know what Johnson was talking about in the pre match presser, when he said "getting across the near post"?
When the cross comes in attack the space in front of and beyond the post nearest the side the cross comes in from. Try to beat the defenders to that space as if the ball is in the space you get first chance at it, if not you pull defenders out of the middle and leave more space in there for others to attack.
I'm gutted. Flip flops and BBQs down there while it's absolutely pissing it down up here. Our pitch is probably in worse nick than theirs today!
