Sausage Sandwich

Fuddy makes a marvellous monkfish curry. No had that in a while either. I just emailed her to say that's what I want for dinner tomorrow

 

I was 26 and living in France, when I first discovered that sardines didn't always come in tins.

 

Had monkfish curry a couple of times in a fantastic Indian restaurant here, bootiful, absolutely bootiful!!

 

Fresh sardines are far better right enough. Used to have that as a starter at the Italian restaurant I used to stay nearby, absolutely lovely.

Even the ones in the tins are good to be honest, if you're struggling to get them fresh locally.

 

I wonder how they manage to get so many sardines in a tin?

anchovies rule imho.

 

You can get fresh ones in Sainsbury's now, but tbh I only really have them in restaurants, usually in Spain.

Always have a few tins of sardines and mackerel in the cupboard. When I was a kid, probably 50% of our diet came out of a tin.

Yup, I usually have John West's finest sardines and mackerel in the cupboard as well. Love them but I shall check out Sainsbury's for fresh sardines

You don’t mate. The old Farmer Giles are a much neglected subject for your modern novelist, sadly.

 

They even made their way into football lore,England had the Nobby Stiles and Ireland had the Johnny Giles

 

There was a character in Viz called Nobby Styles

Made you laugh and wince at the same time the predicaments he got into.

I've never had the old bum grapes but I believe they are bloody painful!!
