What I need to understand is how the players can show in little random moments during a game what they are capable of if they applied themselves properly throughout?
I'd prefer Potter, I like Hassenhuttl but I think there's a real potential rags to riches story with Potter and although some managers when taking the big step up can crumble, I get the feeling he could do well here if given the right backing - but that, is obviously the real sticky point. Whoever's next though will have a massive headache of a rebuild on their hands. Not only is it priority to get at least ten of these useless ****s out the door but they'll also have to deal with the likely loss of Kane which means they'll need a whole new level of rebuild as 95% of our positive stuff comes through him. It's gonna be a thankless task I think.
I think it’s possible and fair to blame both tbh Spurf We’re not that good...we have been the nearly men of football long before Jose turned up and players are always the ones transitioning the managers...some of them have something to answer for.
I would seriously want a manager who will allow king and Mason to continue their careers as coaches at the club. We need coaching staff who understand the culture of the club. It is hardly surprising that the 3 most successful appointments of Levy's were attacking coaches.
I think it's because we're not working on how to be an attacking possession based team. It's no secret Jose likes the counter attack and that relies on defending deep and then playing the quick passes for our attackers to run onto in space. When we go a goal down though, we then need to be the aggressors to get back in the game and because the team have been drilled to be the defensive/ counter side, when going on the front foot we lack the ideas and tactics of what to do.
The players have to play as they are instructed by the coach it's just not true to describe the squad as crap. I would expect Harry Redknapp would come in and transform things just as he did when we famously had 2 points from 8 games. I complained about Harry always mouthing off but I would shut up and concentrate on enjoying the football I'm sure he would produce.
Forget Jose in this but the ‘culture’ of our club needs to change because we don’t win trophies anymore.
Nearly means the squad is bloody good and just needs some decent coaching to go that extra yard. You are always on about trophies and if Jose stays I would not be surprised if he managed to get one for you. You would be happy or happier I would prefer to watch decent football. Right now I would prefer to be watching a Leeds team who will lose probably more games than Spurs but at least I would see some entertaining games.
Not all the squad...but some of the squad don’t have the minerals to get us over the line regardless of what style of football we play as has been tried and tested by two very different management styles. We keep on forgetting winning trophies is a real thing and habit we have long left behind. It’s not enough to say it’s all about playing pretty football...sport is about ambition and climbing the mountain till you get to the top...that has to be the ultimate goal and some of this lot don’t have it in them to win the big ones or any for that matter.
Bollocks to that, Sport is about enjoyment first and foremost as far as I am concerned. Especially pro football and pro sport. it's the excitement of the game as it unfolds. The reason we have this **** football is precisely because of this attitude about trophies. I am not here to support the filling of Jose's CV or a trophy cabinet. I don't get excited looking at cups I prefer them filled with tea.
Considering what Miguel Delaney said about our coaching sessions, it's no wonder some of our players look like they forgot how to play football - as we're not training them to play football in training
You think I want a piddly league cup and that’s the height of my and any other fans ambitions who are crying out for silverware for the club? You think wanting your club to win trophies is a bad thing? I always have to explain this point but I’ll do it again the reason some fans want us to win a trophy is because we hope it starts off a culture of winning trophies because I know winning **** all certainly won’t start that culture so I’m willing to try the let’s win a trophy route. You’re happy with one league title for Spurs in 60 years...I’m not. I’ve watched many methods tried at Spurs with zero result I was definitely always going to behind trying to give someone with Jose’s record a chance regardless of his methods. I want us to win things...I admit I’m guilty of that
Literally said twice in this thread I have a feeling we're not working enough in training of how to be when in possession/ being the dominant team so I can fully believe what Delaney is saying.
yes and I have been watching Spurs for 60 years BECAUSE they usually play an exciting brand of football. I wouldn't have lasted 60 months if they played like we currently are. Of course most of those 60 years was mostly British footballers so I have been brought up on do or die football not naby panmby tic a taca ooooh a threat pass it back crap.
There's a quote from Gareth Barry in the article which at least half a dozen of us have said from December: teams have worked us out It also has to be said that if our entire setup is based on getting the ball to Kane and Son, that's hardly going to encourage Bergwijn et al to give a ****
Go and watch Poch at PSG...fill your boots with entertainment I’ll feel very entertained the day we win a major trophy regardless of how we got there, if we ever get there sad times when you are trying to remove winning from sport...it’s not an evening out at the Theatre, it’s football with shinpads on a football pitch.
You don’t have to last 60 years do you? it’s something the club is trying to get over the hurdle of being trophy shy, a couple of years to actually find a use for the trophy cabinet again...they need to hurry up before we give rise to another generation of Spurs fans who are scared of landing the odd trophy.
That's the modern philosophy imported from the USA what is forgotten is that if you play sport of any kind most participants do not win. So if the only thing for you is winning you are for the most part wasting your time. Football supporters of lower league teams get this. They do not support their team because they expect to win things they support the effort to try to win. We happen to support an elite team near the top of the pyramid but it's still football and we will never win every game or anything like it. Think back to the 3 - 3 draw with West Ham we were all gutted by the result West Ham were delighted with the same result it's about how you get there. It;s about the journey not the destination.
