    Hmmm its a fair point.

As a United fan Giggs is world class even now. Hes not like your Messi's or Ronaldos but a more wise head and a sensible way of playing the game now. Like any great player in their twilight years. I can see how others may not see him as ever being world class as he never had the chance to play on the biggest stage, the world cup, which was for the majority of Giggs' career the top level of football. However he holds many european records and has played at the top level for 2 decades consistently good. Giggs is easily an english football great and I would say a european great as well.

Beckham is a world class dead ball specialist. One of the best ever at what he does. His overall play isnt world class but for his ability with a dead ball and even his general passing he can be considered world class. Overall as a player he is great and will be remembered as a great. Perhaps not a world class great though.

Giggs was most definitely world class, it's a bit foolish to suggest otherwise. I think it's up for debate as to whether he's world class now. Very good player and useful when needed, though.

Giggs is rightly a United legend and definitely a premiership great.

But when Giggs was arguably a world class player in the 90s, the prem was the distant 3rd best league and a full tier down from the top 2 at the time. And neither he nor United dominated in Europe.

If he was he would have had to have moved to Italy or Spain in those days to prove himself against the best. And in those days all the best players were on the continent.

I think he might well have had he made the move. But he didn't so it's guesswork really.

At the end of the day he's the United player I respect the most although Keane runs him close. But I think his consistency as a top prem player and longevity is his achievement rather than being the 'best' or a properly world class player.

    Just an opinion.

I agree that Giggs could of once been classed as world-class, and probably would of been if he had played for a stronger international team.

Beckham, world class? You're joking right? He was good at dead ball situations, but that doesn't make you an all-round world class player. The reason why Beckham is seen by some as world class is for one reason and one reason only - brand Beckham. He may of been a world class player for dead ball situations but his overall play was good, but nowhere near world class.

That must have been pure luck too, as was his success at St Mirren.

That, and being runner up in the WPOTY and Ballon D'Or in 1999 and 2001. People seem to forget Beckham's ability to deliver pinpoint crosses often from almost on the halfway line, as well as his ability to play through balls that other players wouldn't even spot, let alone succeed with. Take a look (try to ignore the gay music)

Why are you so obsessed with the possibility of somebody being homosexual? Makes me wonder if you've got a few skeletons in the closet, y'know...

To be fair, Paisley and Dalglish had both been involved in Liverpool prior to becoming managers. Paisley in particular effectively cut his managerial teeth, under Shankly and so played a role in building the team he inherited, including in the last 60s and early 70s when the team wasn't winning anything. Dalglish less so, but then he was an important player for the club so he must have made some contribution to the backroom staff in order to be made PM without any other experience.

To put it another way, would you say René Meulensteen or Ryan Giggs were lucky if SAF retired at the end of this season and one of them was made manager of Utd?
