Fortunately, we play in a regressing backwater, where thuggery is strength and skill is decried and seen as showboating.

Until our footballing authorities teach the refs what the rules actually are then don’t expect anything to change.

My Declan used to come off the pitch black and blue every week and no one gets booked ever.

Refereeing at every level is dross. Refs need to book people for bad challenges from the 1st whistle but they don’t.

Mick Beale did a podcast last season where he said that Scotch refs need to clamp down on bad tackles and let skilful players win the battle of flair vs thuggery. He said the same happened in England 10 years ago which led to an improved youth set up as skilful players made the grade as opposed to 6ft 5 hatchet men.
