Because he has worked with lower teams far longer than Seb and Lewis. He was also an extensive test driver with Renault when he was younger. You also have to push harder in the sense of not having everything your way when compared to a front runner car, and the fact that Ferrari and Frank Williams say he has the same mindset as Schumacher does and would be an assest to any development team for the future.
The proof is in.the pudding as far as the last few years go... I'm not seeing any evidence to say he's better than any other top driver. It seems more like another one of those F1 myths to me.
"Is Fernando Alonso worth £26m per year?" Ferrari always pay over the odds to their lead driver. It's traditional and adds to the incentive of others who might aspire to race for them in the future. Besides, the extra money they traditionally get from the FIA more than covers the costâ¦
As an investment, Alonso is worth every penny of his salary. He is the best all-rounder in the business, the fact he almost won last year's WDC in his first season for Ferrari and so far this year has done surprisingly well in a vastly inferior car speaks volumes.
Yes, I'd tend to agree more with ASChris's version of a "vastly inferior car"! The Ferrari is a very good car indeed: at worst it is the third best of twelve, and has occasionally been very very close if not better than the McLaren; indeed, this was the case today at Suzuka!
Referring back to my comment no driver is worth 26 Million Pounds unless they win every race all the time then I can start to put my money near 40 million.
You cant be serious. McLaren had a much better car than Ferrari today - its been like that for most of the season.
I agree with this. Button was the only driver who could match (and better) Vettel's pace today, the only reason Alonso was not up there with them (except from the end of the stints) is because the Ferrari was not as quick.
Massa kept up pretty well so the Ferrari can't have been that bad The McLaren and Red Bull seemed fairly well matched with the Ferrari not that far behind. Apparently Alonso had a more race orientated set up than the other but that is only apparently...
