Good morning Saints fans. I very rarely post on here but i always check in and read the posts. I work with 2 Pompey fans and we have some good banter, one of them took me up on a bet. We have got £50 with each other on which team will finish higher and on a side bet we have £10 on each game with the away team getting a 1 goal lead so the away still gets the money for a draw. Anyone else friends or colleagues of the blue few and got similar bets going?
I think if we all had bets like that, Portsea Island would have to join the Euro in order to gat a bailout from the ECB
Is there no recession down south then? I have a running bet going with a Leeds fan (not the most popular bloke in a Liverpool pub, but hey). He took advantage of our lowly league position when Nige joined us to go for Leeds finishing higher in the Championship than we would in League One. Bumped into him just after the final game last season and was ready to be magnanimous and say he could buy me a pint and we'd forget it, but he jumped in first and insisted on double or quits. It seems cruel to keep taking money off Pompey fans, but they seem to have the same sort of blind faith as my Leeds supporting drinking pal.
I do have life long Pompey fans......We do have some bets as to who will finish highest up the league....who would have the most wins.....and losses. The bet on each........ a slap up meal of the winners choice Locally, Pompey or Southampton. Including wives. Mind you it is a bit one sided I think.....as there is two Pompey and just me on the Saints side. So if they win its two meals I've got to pay for. Although if I win I get two meals paid for. However they share the cost so either way they only have to pay for one bloody meal.......Typical Pompey mathematics me thinks......
Check the small print on the contract, mate. It sounds to me that you could lose out a lot over the next few years!
Funny you should say that, i have a bet with a Leeds fan who was confident to bet £5 for every place one team finished above the other! I enjoy going into work every day and knowing he is secretly squirming inside hahaha
Saints Sexy Football Gives Me a Harding - you need to pair more often; I always smile when I read your ID name. Simply genius.
Thanks fatletiss. I need to get on here more, im on my phone on here most of the time and even with app i still find it a pain in the ass to post.
I very rarely bet, particularly on Saints, but I have got 2 bets with colleagues this season on Saints finishing higher, both for £20. Vs Pompey and vs Palace, so i'm looking good for the £40 right now. If I took bets with every Pompey fan I know well, I'd need a separate bank account and declare the winnings to the tax man!!
I've got a £100 bet with a Foxes fan that we will finish above them! This was a drunken bet after last season and before I knew they were going to invest 7 trillion in a entire new squad!
Got a Leeds fan and Pompey fan at work we have a tenner on who will finish the highest at the end of the season. Some good banter, its funny how they both gang up and tell me Saints have paid for our position (I have printed off our annual financial reports) pair of hypocrites. I seem to remember Leeds buying their way into Europe and Pompey the FA Cup, short memories!
I had a bet on that saints will finish in the top half for £50 --- the doubter paid me up £30 early settlement hahahaha
I never bet on sport, no matter how likely an outcome seems the unexpected can always happen. I have so many upsets, last second changes, you never know what will happen. So betting on sport just seems an easy way to lose money half the time. Not to say there aren't those who are unnaturally good at getting these things right sometimes!
Well I don't have any bets on at the moment, but should Pompey slip badly into the relegation zone, then I will place a significantnbet on them staying up. It's a kind of no lose gamble.
Leeds got into Europe through sensible investment in our youth facilities (which produced players like Woodgate, Kewell, Smith, Robinson, Kewell, Harte and Kelly) and by paying reasonable transfer fees for players like Bowyer, Bridges and Mills. It was the profligate spending on wages once we got into Europe, as well as fees on unnecessary players like Robbie Fowler, Robbie Keane and Seth Johnson that really took us into debt when Ridsdale's stupidity started taking effect after not qualifying for Europe one season. But the core of that team was most definitely homegrown and part of the legacy from Howard Wilkinson and Paul Hart's excellent work with our academy at Thorp Arch. So I think it's unfair to say Leeds bought our way into Europe, but we certainly bought our way to oblivion afterwards! By contrast, Southampton's spending (along with good management) has been largely responsible for your success over the last couple of seasons. I don't begrudge you that too much, but I think there is a difference.
