The heart of any team is the management and players but it should never be forgotten that the club cannot survive without the life blood that supports the entire system. Our current strategy is sucking out that vital component from the mix and that can only lead to total apathy on the part of the paying public who feel they are being taken for mugs. All the corporate waffling is starting to make me feel quite sick and fed up with the way my lifelong team is being run, and I honestly believe that change will never happen due to our owner's refusal to listen to the vibes coming from the people who's satisfaction should be task number one. So many posters on this site have said over the years that Steve Lansdown needs to get his head out of the sand because only then will we know he's listening, but clearly they have thick sand in the Channel Islands which doesn't allow noise, or alternative thoughts, to penetrate.
Steve Lansdown has been incredibly successful in finance, by doing things his own way. It appears to me that he keeps the football club on a tight leash, which is hobbling progress in our stated intention to reach the Premier League. It's very easy for us fans to shout at him to employ a proven manager (not a veiled criticism of DH btw) and release control, but Steve is a businessman - a VERY successful businessman - and a football club can very quickly turn £billionaires into £millionaires. He didn't become rich by handing power and money to other people, and much as it frustrates me as a fan, I do understand why he might be reluctant to do so with Bristol City. He seems content to employ a top class rugby coach and is reaping the rewards - but there isn't anywhere near as much money at stake with the rugby - and I don't think there is an equivalent of FIFA Fair Play (I may be wrong - I don't follow rugby), so the financial risk is much smaller and the gain (compared to the football) is much greater, in that he's getting far more publicity and brand exposure with Bristol Bears for his money than he is with Bristol City FC. It's a smaller venture but the return is proportionally greater. Once he wakes up one morning and realises that barring a miracle we will never reach the Premiership under the current regime, he will do one of the following: 1. Nothing - just accept that we've come as far as we can and sit tight in the Championship hoping that one day the miracle will happen 2. Appoint an experienced coach with a pedigree and grant him the funds to build the squad he wants 3. Get p155ed off with all the thankless expensive hassle of owning a football club, sell up and get out. Out of those 3 I think number 1 is the most likely.
You are right on that one bcfcred because nothing should be our middle name. It's a bit like asking for a refund for your return ticket on the Titanic when you truly know it will never happen.
Pat Lamb is top of the game, but it wouldn’t surprise me if him along with his team and players are not on as much as the footballing staff. Plus I think it may be option 3 and rent the ground back to us and the new Chinese or Arab owner in the same calibre as Wally
