Massey started last night in Yeovils 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth in the paint pot!
Whichelow has hardly figured at Exeter!

Bond has put in good performances for Brackley and also our reserves!(see link in ipswich res thread)

I think that depends on who you are. He has played as sub at least in every game and started like Norway said. This is more experience than he has had with us. He is playing as much as expected and all the time he will be learning and hopefully improving.

The one person i worry about is Whichelow. I understand we dont want to rely on the kids, but he had a wonderful start to his senior career last season and im sure he would be a great sub on 70mins. Gives the opposition something to think about when they will be tired and we know Yeates/Forsythe get tired.

Massey is too good to be sitting on a Yeovil bench. I don't see the point in loaning kids to a bench, if we want them to get experience, at least let them play. Very rarely do we get a loanee at Watford that is on the bench ... i can only thing of one in recent seasons, and that's because he was really not very good. We know Massey can play, he just needs game time..he's not getting it in Yeovil, as far as i can tell.

Same goes for Whichelow...thankfully Bond is getting games!

Adam Thompson seems to be impressing people at Brentford but then I think he'd do well in our own 1st team given time.

Sean Dyche seems to be very keen on progressing youngsters slowly. We have seen in the past that rushing a youngster into regular, first team football doesn't always pay off.

Massey and Whichelow really do look very good. But so did Jenkins and Hodson. They were hurried into the side, and this could be blamed as the cause of their developmental plateau. Regular sub appearances is more than they will get at Watford at the moment, so or is to their benefit.

We need some patience with these kids. However, the worry is patience no longer exists in football. Let's hope they keep their feet on the ground and don't make any rash decisions, and remain at Watford FC for a few more years.

Technically this doesn't belong here, but Lee Hodson looks pretty likely to play against Italy. Can't do him any harm.

I'm surprised Thompson didn't get called up too given all the injuries they've had.

Young Massey has done well today, 2 goals at Colchester "first 2 career goals" according to the BBC - hopefully first 2 of many for the Horns.

But he was also booked - not so good.......

Good to see Massey get his goals and from what I've heard Thompson has done well with Brentford.

Notice neither Walker or Whichelow seem to be getting games though..might as well get the latter back into our squad for pace.

all very well developing players slowly as long as he realises most will be out the game by the time they are 30 odd!
If the player is good enough then play him!! I still cant see how some of these players we have bought in are any better than massey murray ,thompson, whichelow! plus which would be cheaper and keep the accountants happy!

    COLCHESTER 2-2 YEOVIL

Gavin Massey's first two career goals helped Yeovil end a run of four defeats as they gained a point at Colchester.

Massey scored after only 40 seconds, firing home from close range after Oli Johnson's blocked shot, before Kayode Odejayi hit the post for the U's.

Andy Bond's deflected shot levelled it and Michail Antonio's header from Ben Coker's cross put Colchester ahead.

Massey grabbed his second with a close-range rebound and Yeovil nearly won it but Kieran Agard's header hit the bar.

Define 'good enough'!! They may have skill aplenty, but not all young players are physical freaks like Rooney (not to mention mental :)) - they simply have to be slowly nurtured in order to come to grips with the physical side of the game, or else they most certainly would be out of the game at this level a lot earlier.

I don't think that our problem is needing to be patient with the kids, it's the kids needing to be patient themselves - the lure of bigger money must be so tempting. As a stark reminder to them, I'd like to see posters of Harry Forrester in the dressing rooms and all around the training ground!

Norway i think you're missing the point. It's all very well saying the kids are good enough, but they have to be ready, and having been thrown in the deep end last season, they're now getting the development they need, as BB says, both mentally and physically. The trouble is, MM gave them too much too soon, for a variety of reasons, and now they'll be hungry for more of the same. I just hope they realise that what they are getting from SD is what they should have had all along, and that they should stay with us and be patient.

Remember that although it is Dyche's decision as their inclusion in the first-team squad or to play them, this will be largely on the advice and guidance of his backroom staff and their judgement as to the progress or otherwise of the younger players.

It would be a foolish man indeed to throw someone in at the deep end against the advice of his team - foolish both as regards the development of the player and also of the support of his team......

No, I believe that to play a player or not, to send them out on loan or ultimately to let them leave Watford are decisions reached over a period of time and by a number of personnel at the club.......and not on the snap judgement over a couple of games that many people on this board seem to make.
