I don't honestly think that this result has much bearing on anything. The first half was a disaster zone following the initial sending off but we acquitted ourselves well until the point when Adams' goal was disallowed. The Bednarek sending off was a travesty which ultimately distorted the result. 6-0 would not have been too unreasonable against the best team in the country and when Utd claim the title, it probably will not look too bad. Three goals conceded after the second sending off reflects more on Mike Dean than Saints, in my opinion. The only real negatives I can think to mention is that Ralph's gamble at letting the youngsters get a game didn't really pay off. I have to say that other than Ramsey and Jankowitz, the team initially put out was not as shabby as put out by the press albeit far from our strongest line -up. Nine of those players should have been able to have done a credible job. The main criticism is why did we let Valery go out on leave. Throughout January the talk was on getting a new full back but, instead of bringing someone new in, we have reduced out scope in this department by a player who can do a job. I would also add that the substitutes seemed to demonstrate the lack of ability within the academy. Not sure why Ralph chose to put two 'keepers on the bench other than a lack of confidence in the outfield players within the academy. Other than that, after the first red card, I am not sure what Ralph could have done. I do not think this will have any bearing on confidence because some of these fringe players are unlikely to get a run out in the first team. I cannot see Jankowitz pulling on a shirt for us again as Ralph seemed incandescent. Given his desire to prove his worth, it would seem that the Swiss has done the opposite. What most people on here have overlooked is the fact that the lockdown has produced some surreal results. This is not an equivalent of the Leicester result and it merely reflects the unusual times we are in. Similarly, the comments about not spending money seem to ignore the fact that this is difficult to do when there is no income! I am not happy with the owner yet I think some voices in here need to face reality and wake up to the fact that there has been no revenue from fan attendance for 11 months. I have struggled to sleep because of this result and just want to move on to the next game and come away with a win. This is a blip and I think we will pick up form so that a decent finish is not too unrealistic.
Having slept on this (not that I lost my sh1t last night, like some), I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Ralph turns Alex Jankewitz’ situation on its head. Unless the kid walked off and said “feck you, Southampton” then Ralph strikes me as the type of fella to sit him down in his office, put his arm around him and give him some cajoling and comfort to help him get his head straight. There is also the benefit that if he gets to play again, there won’t be any fans there. I’m not saying this will happen, just the sort of challenge Ralph may relish if he thinks the lad is talented enough.
Sorry, but whoever done this match thread should hold their head in shame and never ever do a match thread again. Pure humiliation and embarrassing.
I'm aware of the difference in that sense! I haven't seen anyone since March! But why if you are missing 3 players because of covid can you have the game postponed, but if you are missing a team full of players due to injury (and would we have this bad of an injury crisis without covid congesting the games and preventing us from using recovery equipment?). That's what I mean when I say whats the difference.
There will be a lot to learn and alot to take in from this result. The players will pick themselves up for the next game and us fans will still be here to witness more highs and lows. It's what we do. We move on, we March on. But aside from the scoreline, there is a bigger problem. Football is having its life, it's emotion, it's integrity, it's excitement, it's soul and its heartbeat sucked out of it. When football comes down to drawing graphs, ridiculous rules that even officials don't understand or apply consistently and supporters turning their backs on the game, then we have a problem. R.I.P. Premier League Football.
For me, the result isn’t really the issue. Leicester fully deserved their 9-0 and we fully deserved our 0-9 that day too. Last night, Bednarek should never have been sent off. I’m not convinced it was even a foul, and fully expect the red card to be rescinded. But that game finishes 6-0 if that didnt happen in play. After the Villa game, i suggested the officiating was cheating. I think I withdrawn that and feel it it more just ‘dishonest’. I’m not sure wh, but there has been a real agenda against us since December, when we didnt get a penalty v Fulham, and it has got worse for us. I cant be arsed to recount, but how many disallowed goals have we had lately, and how many pens turned down, and **** ones go against us. I dont believe it will happen, and partly I’m hoping with the attention from pundits, MITD and stuff that the league come out and announce the decisions were wrong. And i fully back playing youth for the next few games, and tell the EPL to **** off. Also, I expect our club to simply refuse to play if wither of those ****s is anywhere near one of our games. I would accept a refusal to play, and loss of points, just to make a stand. This simply only happens to the smaller clubs. Didnt Utd get confirmation the decisions v Sheff Utd were wrong, just before our game...
I think it's a bit harsh that @Tel has been banned from here, presumably over his avatar. I know you lot think that's homophobic, but Tel is actually Gay. And you lot bullying him over it, actually means that it's you lot here who are the homophobic ones.
Slept well last night. To any young fans, welcome to the mad world of supporting Saints. Of all the very sensible comments on here, one that stood out was the one that it's better to lose one game 9-0 than lose nine 1-0. I've seen Saints relegated three times. In each case it was a run of defeats, not one big thrashing, that led to the gut wrenching feeling of going down. This team is nowhere near, and even if we are beaten again at the weekend it still won't be. I've witnessed a 7-0 at Leeds; and 8-0 at Everton and, while we're at it. a 6-0 at Old Trafford where we were lucky to keep the score down. They always sting. You don't want to talk football for a few days, but none of these heavy defeats led to disaster. This one won't either. We are Southampton, and we're ****ing mad!
Woke up. Still ****ing livid. Had a piss poor nights sleep and woken up with a banging headache. Why do I do this?
Yes it's true. So I think some of you probably owe him an apology. Probably some of you should ask @brb to unban him too
You can think what you want - it really isn’t much to do with you. I feel you owe us an apology for accusing people to be homophobic. I’m waiting
Look, I’m not interested in having this conversation with you, i think you are wrong, maybe looking for a reaction. I’m going to agree to disagree... Night sweetcheeks
