Few surprising moves in transfer window for Saints. I think Long ask for a loan for game time. Club probably thought Voskins needed to play regularly to progress so loaned him out. I don't think Hasenhuettl likes Valery so I can see him leaving club in summer. Sims and Slattery are their way out and are out on loan to advertise themselves to other clubs. As others have mentioned there are questions over cover for full backs. I think Hasenhuettl is gambling others in squad can cover for injuries ans suspensions. Minamino in to replace Long and score goals obviously. I think we are still suffering from past expensive transfer mistakes. A lot of those mistakes are being rectified as they go out of contract in the summer. I bet we are still paying some of their wages.
We rarely know what is going on inside a club. Agree with your comments, would add that with Long misfiring and an injury to Theo, we were looking light up front.
What’s happened to Mo Salisu ? Is he still on the physio’s table ? If he ever gets fit enough to play, he could help our midfield and defensive problems. I assume we are paying his wages too !
We've been made to pay for bad recruitment - both in actual money and because it's stopped us being able to sign other players. However we are also paying for bad decisions on contract renewals. Forster still has a year and a half left on his and it annoys me every time I think about it.
Whilst I can understand peoples frustrations, loyalty works both ways. Forster was playing out of his skin at the time and most were delighted he got a good long contract. His problems have been well documented and I think the club should be commended for standing by him. If I were a potential signing, it's those sort of things that would positively influence me to join. Can you imagine a similar argument if we tied Danny Ings down to a new year contract (would be seen as great news) only to see his form drop off after the season ended? People would no doubt be similarly annoyed.
His form didn't drop after he signed that contract though. He was already playing badly and low on confidence. We then gave him a 5 year contract as our highest paid player. I also remember most people thinking it was weird or stupid at the time because of how he had been playing. A very different circumstance to if Ings signed a new contract now I would say.
Yeah and he had signed a new deal pretty recently before then as well I think, there were lots of people questioning the move at the time
I think he extended his contract in 2017 and then in 2018 we either extended it again with a wage rise, or we didn't extend the expiry date, but did up his wages. I can't remember exactly, but it was definitely a strange one.
Don't say that anywhere near a Newcastle fan. They'll have you believe that they're the most unfortunate fans in the world. Never a penny spent, never a point won, never a season in the PL. The fact that Wilson, Almiron, ASM and Joe cost a combined £100m over the past two years, we should ignore that.
Yep. What it would actually be like is giving Danny a new contract now, him scoring 3 goals next season and then bumping his wages up again. One of the worst decisions the club has made in the past 5 years.

Did we extend his contract when we decided Gunn was no good? I seem to remember him coming into the team and playing well, then we never saw him again. Maybe Ralph wants an experienced keeper on the bench and they decided that as bench warmers go Forster is not a bad option? Although expensive.
Didn't even have Gunn at that point. Gunn joined July 2018; Forster's extension was signed July 2017.
