The thing is very rarely can you find a player that has not been guilty of cheating in the modern game. Rooney has a number of times, Gerrard, Lampard, Torres, Suarez, Tevez, Nani, Ronaldo, Terry, Vidic, Cole... The list goes on. The thing is the players I've mentioned are classed as top quality in the EPL - so for people to moan about Suarez is hypocritical considering they'll be cheering on their owns cheats come the next game. People need to realise everyone is human and footballers are extremely competitive. I mixture of these attributes is obviously going to bring the odd incident of cheating into the game.
I agree with that. As for Rooney being aggressive. Imagine if that was removed from him, would he be the same player? Is it worth removing it? Roy Keane was successful because he was a moody bastard, Drogba and Anelka same thing. Ian Wright had ''fire in his belly'', it was felt that if he got rid of that then he wouldn't be as productive. One a minority of players in the history of football were saints. I can only name two and they are Ian Callaghan and Gary Lineker, Cally was booked once in a 22 year career with Liverpool 1960-1978 and Swansea 1978-1982 and Lineker is the only English footballer to never recieve a yellow card with Leicester, Everton, Barcelona, Spurs. So in a nutshell, if a player has to be nasty and competitive to win, something that Suarez shows with his enthusiasm that sometimes goes a little bit too far, thats a slight negative with loads of positive. I don't think he's worth changing as you wll lose the positive as well as the negative. A lot of people moaned about Emile Heskey being ''too nice''. There however does need to be a balance. I reckon the same thing applies to managers. There is a difference between a nice man and a weakling/ yes man. I do believe in managing with a iron fist in a silk glove, and that does mean that there is a need on occasions to be nasty. Everything is okay as long as its balanced.
Too right. If I was a player and I needed to dive to get a penalty to get United three points I'd be a right diving bastard
It's true that diving is part of the game now but it hasn't always been so and I for one hate it-even when our players do it. I'll accept the advantage gained because it's a competetive game and all teams have players that are guilty of it, but if it were possible I'd be happy to see it eradicated. I'm old enough to remember it creeping into the game- it annoyed me then and it still does. Once footballers considered themselves men and would have laughed at the current lot throwing themselves about like a bunch of fairies. Also, if players are constantly trying to con the ref (with the tacit appproval of their managers) how can they complain when the ref does get conned by someone else? If they played an honest, sportsmanlike game then the officials would make fewer mistakes and the game would be better for it imo.
I agree with that 100% It is very much a shame for the game. I think it may correlate with the financial benefits that are in today's game. As money usually ends up ****ing most things up!
Well if the PL, FA and OPTA dont count them then I am afraid they dont count. Got links to these assists? A quick google points towards there being no assist against either side.
Since when did stats become a true representation of a players abilities? I don't care if your going to come back with "Oh but he used them..", who cares? Suarez assisted a goal vs Arsenal FYI, who cares whether its counted by the EPL, ESPN or any other Tom, Dick or Harry? He passed the ball to a player who scored pretty soon after, without no other intervention in possesion. Its an assist in my book and if it isn't yours, then you need a new book. Stop arguing over Suarez vs Rooney by the way, they both are football players who offer different abilities to their respective teams, get over it. I'm not saying don't debate, I'm saying don't debate over something pointless and with bias instead of a balanced debate with a proper conclusion which can be made at the end. /rant
Lets see what happens next weekend, it will be the proof we all need that Suarez is the better player. It will be Rooney and not Suarez that ends up in a defenders pocket.
His one assist was to Bellamy against Brighton in the league cup, so obviously it won't be included here. Those saying his assist to Meireles in the Arsenal game..? One goal was an own goal, the other Suarez scored himself, so there's no assist there.
Yeah, but stats don't reflect the context. Fair enough if a striker has 1 goal in 100 apps, he's probably pretty ****, but you learn more from watching a game than you do by simply looking at the bare bones of it. Would Suarez have got a hat trick against Arsenal if he'd been in that United side next to Rooney? Maybe, maybe not. Would Rooney have scored as many were he playing for Liverpool this season? Again, maybe, maybe not.
This why you should stick to the banter threads, anything that requires the slightest bit of football nous is way beyond you.
So they're are not attackers. I hope you have a bloody good explanations to why Ajax, Uruguay and now Liverpool have been playing Suarez as an attacker seeing as I have no footballing nous. If hes not an attacker then what is he? A goalkeeper? Water boy? A fan? Explain man* *Dont explain if you are chatting **** again.
The fact that you think everyone who plays in forward positions is an "attacker" and are therefore somehow comparable sums up why nobody takes your views seriously.
Exactly,Kenny was a forward but not an out attacker(Rush was),Beardsley was a forward but he was'nt an out and out attacker(Aldo was) etc etc.
