In answer to your thread about competition for places, which vanished .... That's a very good point. It's not a case of replacing players, it's a long season and we'll need to rest players especially if we progress in the Cup and have play-offs. If, towards the end, we can have a fit squad of players fighting to get into the starting eleven we will have a big advantage over other teams. Our bench today could be the strongest we've yet seen which means games can be managed better. The subs under the previous two managers were always 'last resort' desperation moves ... ... Johnson uses the whole match squad as a team imo.
I like him, puts a shift in. I always like players who graft. Agree he does some good work off the ball and is improving. In fact a lot seem to be improving now and as @Sunderlad says I'm hoping for that click moment when we kick on. Yes I've hoped for it in the past to no avail but there are much better signs now imo. My hope is fans are allowed back before the end of the season and see us lift the trophy to finally leave this fooking god awful league behind us. Even if I can't go I'll be welling up like a bairn
Its shocking that Parkinson could have strengthened the bench by leaving Grigg and Graham off it! I read something the other day and not sure if its true, Graham gets about £1500 if he appears for the first team (on top of his basic £1,800 a week), good enough reason for him never to be on the bench ever again
I've noticed quite a few Gillingham games kick off at 13:00, don't know if there is any reason for this, not that it's really relevant in these times, just one of those little things I've noticed.
clubs have been agreeing to it to reduce travel time. Games finishing at 3 when you have half the country to travel means you get back at reasonable time versus finishing at 5.
I would probably play the new signings in the cup game, or gave them on the bench and when we are 4-0 up introduce then 2nd half.
Massive game. They have been active in the market so will be a tough one. However, we have a little bit momentum and have good pace options off the bench. Need an early goal and get off on the front foot.
Watching spuds v bindippers the other night, the spuds RB went into a dream and let Sane drift away from him. It cost spuds a goal and when the RB, Aurier? Was subbed he was pizzed off. I mentioned this cos although Power us filling in at RB okay... I have doubts about LB, when we were beaten at home 1-2 the other day, both goals did come from the LB position... was it McFadzean's/Mcgeady's fault... not sure. But a lot of teams seem to concentrate their attacks on our left. I wonder if LJ sees it the same.
I think we have two options, pace or control to start with, a lot hinges on the first half, but we have the best bench in this league imo and if handled effectively will see us through, the five sub rule has been a blessing for us imo. now we have a manager who knows how to use it. OaU
