Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye has admitted he is worried about the extent of an ankle problem he sustained on international duty with France.

Cabaye started for his country in Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier against Albania and maintained his recent fine form with an eye-catching first-half performance.

However, he picked up an injury to his left ankle and, despite coming out again after the interval, had to be substituted in the 48th minute.

It is not yet known how serious the damage is and Cabaye has not been officially ruled out of Tuesday's key clash with Bosnia-Herzegovina at this stage, but the 25-year-old is pessimistic about the prognosis.

"I preferred to be substituted and not take any risk," he told L'Equipe.
    Revelation

"It was a big pain, and I fear ligaments could have been damaged."

Cabaye is set to undergo a scan on Saturday, along with Manchester United's Patrice Evra who was also substituted due to an injury.

Newcastle will certainly be hoping there is no major problem with Cabaye, who has been a revelation since moving to St James' Park from Lille over the summer.

The Magpies are unbeaten so far this season and will be looking to remain in fourth place when Tottenham come to Tyneside next weekend.

Question is, what will Pardew put out now? I'm hoping for 4-5-1 personally.

I think Guthrie will be a fine replacement for Cabaye. Like for like although he obviously hasn't got Cabaye's quality, but I still think he could do a respectable job.

Remember when we drew against Tottenham at home? Guess who we played in the middle.. yes that's right.. GUTHRIE and at home when we drew against Man United.. yes that's RIGHT GUTHRIE. Stop with the Guthrie hating. It anit' cool. Just back the lad, he isn't a bad player.

http://www.football-lineups.com/match/77491/ Guthrie playing in CM with Tiote and against Man United! Drew 0-0 and put in a very good performance I must say.
http://www.football-lineups.com/match/77399/ Guthrie again, this time partnered with Nolan. Guthrie produced a very good box-to-box action display and also set up Colo's goal. <ok>

I also remember Guthrie having an excellent game against Tottenham last season and even grabbing an assist for that lovely ball for Coloccini.

Showed brilliant character to play the Man U game when we had no other options. Ended his season because we needed him.

I agree with this, but Pardew has already stated he's not going to change a winning team, so at the very least Raylor and lord voldemort will replace Santon and Marveaux

Think people remember Guthrie for his horrid performances in wide positions, he's pretty decent in the middle and distributes the ball well. Not the most physical chap but that's where Tiote steps in. :)
