I packed up properly around 10 years ago. I switched to rollies which are rank so that pushed me in the right direction.

I smoke a bit of weed in a pipe occasionally now, but that's it. Once a week maybe, sometimes not at all.

That was why they banned smoking in pubs
Probably just order the drinks and go outside with them when they reopen in the summer

Miss it is probably not the word I'd use. It's still addictive. I compensate for it with sugar items, such as sweets, chocolate. I'm lucky in the sense I've never been overweight, otherwise I'd be better off smoking again, because you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The addiction will defo kick in once I'm in a pub garden again, then the controlling factor will be my mood. We all know it's a killer, and the government health warnings have never really conquered the problem, because we just ignore them, no matter how big they are on the packet. The only really controlling factor is price, but I got round that through import.

Yup. Most effective measure I ever found for giving up smoking is self banning it indoors. Because then if I did want a smoke, I had to go outside, and this time of year it can be wet and cold, so then I think I can't be arsed.

    Good tactic.

When I was giving up, I used to make it harder for myself (i.e making roll ups) just more hassle than picking up a ***. I then used to put the baccy in a box on the top shelf of a bookcase, so it was another hassle to actually get it down, out of the box, then roll one up.

Each stage makes you think, do I really want a smoke that bad ?

Apart from when you've had a beer of course and then it's a no brainer <laugh>

Something I've read that's really resonated with me is the idea that you're not really giving up anything. What does it actually give you? Losing nothing and gaining loads by stopping.

I think another aspect is the saying 'I'm giving up' because people then just constantly ask you how are you doing. Hence making you think about what you are supposed to be giving up. Also with someone like me, it's got to be because I want to do it, not because someone wants or more so as I see it, is telling me to give up....because then I won't.

Years ago when I use to drive a lot, I changed to rollies to slow my ability to smoke down. The problem was I soon learned how to roll them while driving and ended up smoking more.

Agree about the doing for yourself bit, big believer in that. I also like to talk about it a lot as a reminder, weird but my way of dealing with it.

If you ever see me making multiple jokes about cocaine on here then it's probably cos I fancy taking some <laugh>

We can all do anything if we really want to. I remember October.
Problem being, it's easy to slip back into old ways.

Primary School Children Writing About The Sea

    1) This is a picture of an octopus. It has eight testicles. (Kelly age 6)
    2) Oysters' balls are called pearls. (Jamie age 6)
    3) If you are surrounded by sea you are an Island . If you don't have sea all round you, you are incontinent. ( Wayne age 7)
    4) Sharks are ugly and mean, and have big teeth, just like Emily Richardson. She's not my friend no more. (Kylie age 6)
    5) A dolphin breaths through an arsehole on the top of its head. (Billy age 7)
    6) My dad goes out in his boat, and comes back with crabs. (Emily age 5)
    7) When ships had sails, they used to use the trade winds to cross the ocean. Sometimes, when the wind didn't blow, the sailors would whistle to make the wind come. My brother said they would be better off eating beans. (William age 7)
8 )I like mermaids. They are beautiful, and I like their shiny tails. How do mermaids get pregnant? (Helen age 6)
    9) I'm not going to write about the sea. My baby brother is always screaming and being sick, my Dad keeps shouting at my Mum, and my big sister has just got pregnant, so I can't think what to write. (Amy age 6)
    10) Some fish are dangerous. Jellyfish can sting Electric eels can give you a shock. They have to live in caves under the sea where I think they have to plug themselves into chargers. (Christopher age 7)

    12) Divers have to be safe when they go under the water. Two divers can't go down alone, so they have to go down on each other.(Becky age 8 )
    13) On holiday my Mum went water skiing. She fell off when she was going very fast. She says she won't do it again because water shot up her fanny (Julie age 7)
