If you load the site on a mobile, I get the pinned threads (also very annoying) and then the top thread. This morning I had to scroll past this thread, the laugh thread to find something horse racing...
I see fatjockey have widened their forum to include other sports and topics such as politics. I hope for their sake the politics one doesn't take off The beauty is though that you have to go to another section to view them. That can't be done here whilst restricting posts to horse racing folk. Sub forums/categories is something I have requested in the past, and again today, but I'm not holding my breath
I can imagine the stickies being a pain. This can be avoided by using Multiview but you have to have at least 2 forums included
Apologies in advance for being a bit of a plane spotter (when you work in the industry, you tend to get hooked). Some lovely footage of Concorde taking off and then (filmed from a boat) the sonic boom as it goes supersonic over the ocean.
100,000 dead from COVID in the UK reached this week. Not surprising that the UK is the first country in Europe to reach this figure. the only thing more surprising than the fact that Boris Johnson has not resigned is that there are not more calls for him to go. the response to the pandemic continues to be embarrassing. We now currently have the highest death rate in the world, yet the talk this week has been when can we open up again. What a joke. If the government had not allowed Christmas to happen instead of implementing a proper national lockdown then maybe we could be reopening the schools again next month. Instead I very much doubt they will open until April at the earliest. it is quite clear by now that by trying to please as many people as he can the more damage he does to the economy and the longer we are all locked down. the policy is to quarantine people just from what they consider to be dangerous countries is laughable. anyone travelling back from Portugal for example will now just drive to Spain and fly back from there. it is yet another soft touch policy. there is no strategy, no plan and it already looks like 2021 will be another write off..
Anybody looking for evidence of the general stupidity of the public at large need only read that post. They get the Blame Boris broken record for free, with the usual levels of inaccuracy (not worth rebutting again) just after the government announces possible school reopening on 8th March. Obviously it is rubbish as the tabloids splashed it all over their front pages and even the BBC were fooled. FACT: 100,000 people have died of something, if we assume that the Office for National Statistics (ONS) can count death certificates. FACT: 100,000 people have not died of Coronavirus because the ONS have been producing misleading and inaccurate data for nearly a year. FACT: 100,000 people dying within 28 days of a positive test (without accounting for false positives) does not prove that any of them died from the plague. FACT: a doctor mentioning Coronavirus on a death certificate does not prove that the deceased died from it. I have had previous dealings with the ONS, so I know that their data collection methodology is inaccurate. Garbage in, garbage out just like any other system. Fred the van delivery man had a positive test on 1st November 2020. Fred self isolated for fourteen days and never showed any symptoms of the plague. Fred died in a traffic accident on 25th November 2020. The ONS counts Fred as a plague death. Freda smokes 40 fags a day, has had a cough for twenty years and refuses to quit smoking. Freda falls down the stairs, breaks her leg and is admitted to hospital. Freda is waiting to have her leg put in plaster, cannot go outside for a fag and still has her smokers’ cough. Freda has a heart attack and dies. The doctor saw her coughing and mentions Coronavirus on the death certificate. The ONS counts Freda as a plague death.
100k deaths, UK has the most deaths, both bollox determined by dodgy innacurate counting methods. But, Boris seems happy to use this number and it is on his watch so why not refute it?
Genuinely embarrassed for you and the person who liked your post. You realise that there are COVID only wards in most hospitals? That in some hospitals half of the patients are in there with COVID ? If they are not in there with COVID can you please explain why they need to be on ventilators? the NHS is completely overstretched due to this and the lack of investment after 10 years of Tory rule. Wha5 part of that do you not understand ?
Nothing embarrassing about the post at all, it had no mention of hospital patients or wards that you replied with. Why dont you show evidence that the figures are wrong? It was about the dodgy figures of covid deaths.
excess deaths in the U.K. are 20% higher in the past year. If COVID is not the reason for this then tell me what is!
Why would a govt want to inflate death from covid figures ? We. know these figures don’t include many others who have perished as a result of contracting this virus , like the massaged unemployment figures , these are done for political expediency , no doubt some drone will be on to refute this ..........
I don't doubt that the number of Covid deaths is inaccurate but, in one sense, it's irrelevant. What mattered is that the government never tried to suppress this virus- only control it. It's not rocket science. All we had to do at the outbreak was close our borders; give an early deadline for all British citizens to get home and quarantine/test them effectively; ban all immigration/emigration. Then institute a good track/trace system. If illegal immigrants had to die in the channel to get out the message and stop them coming over, then sadly, so be it. The first duty of any government is to protect the life of its citizens. Education, economy, and all else is secondary. Without life, you have nothing. The fact is we are a small to medium sized island surrounded by protective water. Using that fact to our advantage should have produced hundreds of deaths, not thousands. Therein lies the real tragedy.
Nicely summed up. Yes the wrong strategy has been pursued from the outset. Even if you could forgive them for being caught out last March you can't continue to excuse their mistakes. It should not have taken 10 months to consider quarantining some air passengers. A £22 billion test and trace system should by now be working ? At no point have the lives of the UK citizens been put first, and that is completely unacceptable.
The EU really are a piece of work Trying to queue barge over supply of the vaccine (which apparently is still not approved for use in the EU) Saying they have paid for it - apparently the reality is they have a substantial sum to the suppliers) Not the UK's or the suppliers fault that the EU ordered their vaccine 3 months after the UK
Really embarrassing for the EU, „best reasonable efforts“ is standard contract language and is very difficult ( if not impossible) to legally enforce.
The EU politicising this and as you say not our fault they can't get their act together. Overall incompetence on the EU s part. The supply of vaccines should be above triggering article 16 and its rather embarrassing that the EU are resorting to these tactics. U.K leading the world on vaccinating even though we are not part of the EU. No surprise to me..
