Point taken ! However a club still has to maximize its catchment area effectively and some do this better than others. The entire County of Suffolk has fewer inhabitants than the Urban zone of Bristol (The same applies to Norfolk) - so, my comparison still stands.

Which makes me question your maths in post #39.

Watford's urban catchment area population is approx 130,000. 34,099 as a percentage of that equates to approx 26.23%. How does that affect the question you posed? :)

Hello Bolton. I took the actual population of the town at the time of the match - which does not include for example Croxley (Rickmansworth). I wasn't actually referring to the catchment area which I would take as partly including Hemel Hempstead and St. Albans, and south as far as maybe Pinner. Any percentages refered to under post 39 are only for town sizes taken from the time when matches took place not to complete catchment areas. The same criteria applied to all other cases I looked at. The highest record crowd size in relation to town size I found was for Burnley way back in the time of cloth caps with 54,000 in their stadium to a population of 73,000. Apart from Watford the highest figure in the south was for Yeovil so I've answered my own questions there.
