Climate denial is in the same deluded bracket as Covid denial. Some people's vested interests are so ingrained that they won't ever allow themselves to change.

Bolsanaro will watch the Amazon burn and the ice caps melt and just claim it's a nice sunny summer's day.

Black holes 'prove' the existence of other dimensions -where is all that stuff going? And so, in some schools of thought, does the existence of the universe at all - where did it come from, if not from another dimension? But without physical evidence, be careful - after all, the not knowing from where this universe came from is the cornerstone of religious belief. If you don't know, mathematics 'prove' your theory one way or another: as I say, medieval mathematicians 'proved' the existence of wandering stars simply because they couldn't accept a non geocentric universe.

The other problem is that even 'intelligent' commentators on the right like Peter Hitchens nailed their colours to the sceptic flag so early on in the debate that they can't back down now or they'd lose face (same as Covid denial).

Science and particularly Astrophysics attempts to explain its theories with the caveat of always being biased, by being inside the observed universe, rather than being able to view it objectively from the outside. So what we observe is always relative to our position, and limited to our understanding of physics as we know it. We don't really know what happens to stuff inside a black hole as it's beyond our working comprehension of physics.

Apart from Captain Reinhardt, as he actually flew his ship into one :)

Aha, yes indeed, where is it all going? It’s part of our insatiable desire to, as Steven Hawking put it, understand the mind of God. Perhaps it’s been that way since Adam and Eve ate the apples from the Tree of Knowledge.

The universe became conscious - the human mind is a conscious universe - and now it needs to understand itself. Plus, it would be pretty ****ing cool if we could travel around freely within it.

But maybe it’s all bollocks. Maybe I took too much acid in the 70s, and so did all the astrophysicists.

Indeed. And also fuelled by ideological absolutes. The right are ultra anti-state, so any 'interference' in people's personal liberties are seen as an affront and meddling by the 'nanny state'

Hence the 'go out and do what you want' covid ****s.

Something that was levelled at Wheeler et al over The Anthropic Principle and the collapse of the wave function. All I know is that if my consciousness really shaped the universe then Kylie and Danii would be taking turns on my 12inch cock right now, and I wouldn't have been in work since 5am bored ****less enough to come on here.
