Afternoon all... After three defeats and three games without scoring I’m just glad we got a win against a team that that’s going to flirt with danger. Llorente is a concern though

On the fixtures front I think Leicester and Palace will need to watch out, because we battered both teams early on and at Palace had a perfectly decent Bamford goal ruled out by VaR and us being in front would have meant a different outcome. Chelsea were a team that played us off the oark and was the last time Chelsea played well for Lampard. They put in an extra 25% per man that matched our effort according to data analysis. Tommy Tucon will be new and never experienced a Bielsa battering so I think a point or win there. We took a point from Man City and thats the sort of form we now need for these games. Also we have only drawn 2 games this season which is unusual after 19 games. I expect a couple of draws too

Raph is a steal for what we paid for him, looking like an ace in the pack.....nice finish for goal and a lovely pass to jacko to finish with a beaut, he also has a bit of fire in his belly as observed when he joined in the little spat with Rodrigo/sharr sticking up for your team mates :emoticon-0148-yes: from me

Imagine being a Newcastle fan and watching your team fail to score, until last night, with millions of £ of strikers on the bench. Calum Wilson hardly got a kick, neither did Dwight Gayle. Their most dangerous were Almiron and Maximin when he came on. Andy Carroll must be on a fortune to warm the bench. I seem to remember posters wanting Joelinton too. We need them to keep Bruce until the end of the season

Chelsea did deserve the win but also worth noting at 2-1 we should've had a penalty for a foul on Poveda where he managed to keep his balance where any other player would've gone down so we came very close to getting a draw there despite it being one of their better games. Another game that weekend saw a very similar tackle get a penalty because the fouled player went to ground forcing a VAR review.

Berra? Not a chance. He couldn't keep up as FB in the Championship. What makes you think he'll have more pace in the PL? I think our u23s will now be ahead of him at CB too. Sadly, as I love the guy. (And if I'm honest, he scares me too!).

I think we need to be cruel to be kind and let a few players go in the summer so we can move up the table.

Much needed win last night. Was worried at times in the second half as we couldn't get hold of the game and string two passes together which we've been struggling a lot with recently but hopefully that'll be the push we needed after a bit of a bad run. Feeling more confident going into those games after a grinding out the win, at least its points on the board. One thing I'm starting to notice increasingly is the opposition CB basically running from defence right through to our defence. I'm not sure who should be taking the responsibility but I feel we're losing out in the press so this starts up front, through our midfield and into our backline.

Didn't do any team ratings yesterday so see below.

Meslier - 7 - Thought he had a good game and made some decent saves. Needs to keep working on his distribution as it is a flaw. Also, not sure if I'm being harsh but I thought he could've done better on the goal.

Ayling - 5 - Actually thought he had a pretty poor game, lost his man a few times and got caught out. Probably an issue not playing RB for such a long time.

Llorente - N/A - Not enough time to give a rating but thought he looked composed and could pass the ball. Good signs and I think he'll do well if he ever gets fit. Annoying that we have to play either a RB at CB or a LCB at RCB. Hopefully he won't be out for too long but I think it'll be a few weeks to a month now.

Cooper - 6 - Thought he made some good interceptions and passes. Seems a lot more calm than he used to be. Almost made a mistake with a header back to Meslier but they must've communicated well as Meslier was very quick to it so it didn't come to anything in the end.

Alioski - 5 - Murphy looked like a world beater against him. He got beat for pace a few times and almost cost us a goal because he receives a pass sometimes and doesn't know what to do with it, holds on to the ball for too long and ends up losing it. Something Harrison is also guilty of. It's a shame as he does do some good stuff and won back the ball for the first goal which is why I've marked him up but he did look lost in the second half.

Phillips - 5 - Didn't feel the backline got much protection from him being there. He didn't seem to get hold of the ball as much, pass around the backline and dictate play as much as he usually does. I know how good he is and can be but he has had a hit and miss season.

Raphinha - 8 - Fantastic. Great goal and amazing pass for the assist. If he made a couple of better decisions and Roberts put his chance away he could've had 2-3 more assists.

Dallas - 6 - Fairly solid in midfield. Would be good to get him back at LB but our problems started to come through the middle once he was moved to LB.

Rodrigo - 8 - One of his best games in a Leeds shirt. Got a good assist and could've had a couple more. Could still improve his pressing but he has got a lot better.

Harrison - 7 - Good game and good goal. Should've done better with his shot early in the game which is his frustrating side of his game but got a goal so made up for it. Does need to keep improving his shot conversion though.

Bamford - 5 - Couldn't control and couldn't pass. Made some good runs and was in some good positions but he didn't get the pass when he could've had a tap in or two so not entirely his fault. Not sure if it was a bad pass to Ayling for the goal or Ayling's poor control but I think it might've been a combination of the two.

    Subs:
Struijk - 7 - Did very well. Calm and composed without doing anything spectacular. Went on in the game pretty unnoticed which is what you want from you CB's. Think he'll be Coopers predecessor.

Klich - 5 - Can't really remember him doing anything and when he came on is when we started having more trouble down the middle. It's a shame as I'm a massive fan of his. I can't work out if the trouble we're having in the middle it's Klich's or Rodrigo's fault but it could even be to do with Dallas not being in the middle.

Roberts - 7 - Thought he had a much better game. Think he's looked a lot better the last two times he's come on. Could've and probably should've scored. Almost got an assist but he does need to work on his pressure as that does let him down. Couple of times I thought he looked like his lazy self.

Kiko and Alioski are 2 players we need to replace in the Summer, with proper Prem quality. We need to bring in around 3 top players minimum and Those 2 are taking up places in Bielsa’s small squad. Forshaw needs to go too and probably Pablo. All 4 players have played a massive part in getting us here, but everyone can see we need to add more quality to move forward again next season. We need a Pulgar type player who can cover for Phillips and at 8 or 10. We need an experienced keeper too

Probably another winger to challenge Raphinha and Harrison more as I'm not sure Costa is that. And maybe a striker to compete with Bamford if Greenwood/Gelhardt don't make it.

I too was wondering about their CB marauding through, & I believe, being a CB, that he was the responsibility of Rodrigo or more likely, Bamford. We work on a 1-1 cover basis, so can't see anyone else being the principal 'coverer' (is that actually a word?). We defend from the front, & I have a wee feeling that this is why Bamford was subbed.

What position did Roberts play last night? I know what he was supposed to play, but he failed miserably in some basics, like being an 'out' when we want to lump it up when under attack. I thought I was watching a headless chicken, & thought he brought very little to the game. It was almost like he was trying to be the #10, instead of Rodrigo. Perhaps he was supposed to be? Who knows?

    Agreed

    1) Kiko needs to go as soon as possible in my eyes. The problem is at this point in the window can we offload him and bring in a new GK with experience. Man City has Carson and West Brom has Lonegan but cna we fet a 2nd choice experienced keeper in such a short amount of time.

    2) Allioski going wouldn't bother me what so ever. We've needed a natural LB for a couple of years as Douglas didn't cut it. We could get rose as he's not wanted at Spurs but his age in of concern.as he's 30/

    4) As much as I like Hernandez he's got 5 years max playing career in him. He can't play every game now so I think it's time to drop down a league.

    5) Forshaw just get rid of.... he's been out for a year now. We can get somebody to fill the role he played.

I'm gonna add two more on to the list.

    6) Roberts... He had potential but he's not lived up to it we could get another attackimd Midfielder fairly cheap in Europe.

    7) Beradi... this one actually pains me to say it but he's always injured and he's 32 years old now he can get a younger fitter replacement

great markings from me, agree with mostly all your post...i thought meslier should have rushed at almiron and maybe would have put him off i also think coops should have done better by at least putting him under pressure he didn't go near him:steam:

I'm going to be harsh here on the players who we should replace with better.

    Kiko - for obvious reasons.

Cooper -- He still doesn't look comfortable at this level and is basically hanging on in games by his finger nails. Struijk is becoming a better player.

Berardi - We did the right thing by him. He would be a solid signing by a Championship side.

Leif Davis - Not good enough. Needs to play now. Won't be in the PL.

Shackleton - He needs to play also. It won't be with us at this level.

Costa - Carries some value and looks like he won't be getting games. Recoup a few million.

Roberts - Not good enough and enough clubs sniffing about means a few million in the bank.

Hernandez - Father time is catching up with Pablo. If he doesn't want to player/coach then let him go.

Bamford - Cash in whilst he is worth maximum value. He's done OK this year but we need better if we are to kick on.

Harrison - Sign him permanently. Use the Costa cash.
