This season it has appeared that Hamilton has suffered a major decline in confidence due to on and off track problems which in turn has contributed to more problems and a continued declince in confidence and self-efficacy.

One explanation would be a kind of catastrophe theory where he is either too much or too little aroused and with a high level of cognitive anxiety/stress it has led to a large decline in performance.

However Hamilton is still doing well enough in qualifying and in the races his pace is good, it is really the wheel to wheel stuff where he is having problems. A few failed overtakes this year have seem to of taken away Hamilton's assuredness and confidence when he is battling wheel to wheel and overtaking. Yes he still can overtake as he did in that later half of the Singapore GP, however he was in a much faster car and in a relative low pressure situation then, you just have to look at how tentative he was behind Schumacher at Monza or Massa at Singapore and how he got a bit flustered today when Webber and Schumacher overtook him to see that things are not right.

So has Hamilton simply got the yips? And if so, how does he deal with it?

I just think he's trying to prove a point for his poor season, which is only making the situation worse. Even with all his mishaps he's still got a good points tally so it not like he's doing horrible. He needs the winter break more than most so he can come back with a clean slate next year. Hopefully the lack of pressure for the rest of this year will help him get back into the swing of things for next year too.

Seems no matter what he doesn this year, something happens that prevents him from accomplishing what he wants.

Be it a team error, his error, another driver error, he has been in the wrong place a tthe wrong time, everytime!

A long run of bad luck, turingin into desperation and bad judgements to make up for it? Lets hope so. I certainly want to see a fully firing Lewis Hamilton next year.

I think he needs counselling, his over-riding need to win probably has it's roots in his childhood. bullying teachers, other kids and a highly motivated dad. Vettel arriving on the scene probably hasn't helped much, or the previously unfancied Button proving to be a challenge. I think he constantly has to prove himself to himself to silence the doubts, and when it isn't going right he either tries to hard or becomes dejected. I hope someone helps him, because no matter what he is one of the mst exciting drivers to watch and one of the best drivers on the grid.

As I cannot see your post I will answer your title,

Lewis is losing his composure fast, he needs to man up and drive.. forget the media and the critics... he needs to drive for his dignity and pride.
He is apparently blaming Michael Schumacher for his own " reduction in speed" after 130r, Webber and Michael needed to put a lap in pronto...
Hamilton tried the same kind of maneuver/ WEB and MSC (oppurtunistic) on Massa in Singapore 2 weeks ago, if this is all true... why doesn't he ever confront Michael face to face... such as scrutineering, where he was to busy shaking his head in despair when Michael was behind him.

Man up and get your act together Lewis this is racing, work as a unit with Mclaren and the No.1 driver Button... or bail out.

    Ermmm, pardon?

If the race goes badly for Hamilton then he should support Button for 2nd in the WDC, after all it means nothing and he can re-call the favour next year if the tables are turned and 1st is possible lol

Thank you trolls, very nice to see bullying and double teaming is flourishing on this forum, you could have told me kindly, instead of getting defensive for Hamilton.
Also that picture shows how angry, and insecure Hamilton has become, he has 0% respect for anyone other than himself, and is far from what his hero Senna ever was.

    What does your point prove?
He is being hypocritical over his own move in Singapore.... strange... there may also be a tad bit of anger from Monza left over.
All I can say is both you Bright (Mod) and Mifune are being childish and a tad nasty, I have been on this forum for more than half a year... and it is getting worse.

? What have I done, I simply pointed out Hamilton had apologised and what Schumacher said. I really don't see how that is nasty, or Trolling for that matter

Hamilton has lost his way a bit thats for sure. He looks really unhappy a lot of the time. I think Button being more and more respected at the team has impacted on his confidence, after having it all his own way for so long. It wouldn't be a surprise to me if he left the team soon, it's like when you're in a job and you have just had a neckfull of it and have to move on, but to where and to do what, I don't know.

At least Michael actually did nothing wrong here, Lewis is blaming another driver... for something he didn't do.
As I said, a sign of insecurity. :emoticon-0137-clapp

He didn't blame anyone but himself. If you actually watch the interview you will see what he says.
