well according to the Beeb IFAB were involved in the "clarified" interpretation But referees group the Professional Game Match Officials Limited, rulemakers the International Football Association Board, and European governing body Uefa have since offered clarification on how such an incident should be interpreted in the future.
Oh right, so they’ve all collectively decided the decision was correct, but then clarified the rule, without changing the actual rule, but have literally rewritten the rule. Stunning There’s some high level crying gone on there. Call me a cynic, but I doubt they’d have all clubbed together and issued that had the game been Brighton vs West Brom like.
In ye olden days arsenal and George Graham could earn 10 frees a game with the flag going up instantly. 1-0 to the arsenal etc. I am sure nobody wants to go back to that. We went close last year frankly with a high line and stepping up. We had a bit more intent to score mind. I dont mind offside being a play on til you go for ball or whatever type rule but I do mind officials not flagging. Its about culture of the game for me. My example of a game where flagging and play are natural.is American football. Put up the flag. Everyone knows the score then. Just dont blow the white if you want the play to go on until a chance is gone or whatever. The situation now is an official sees something but can decide to flag or not flag based on a whim or corruption. Put up the flag and play on imo. But then the lines must go. The camera angles are just not good enough and its too open to officials.messing around to find the result they want. Replace with a clear daylight rule. Cricket quickly got right of ball tracking controversy by making an umpires call rule. Let's see that in football. Lineman call unless there's clear error thats visible without resort to lines. Finally handball is totally ruined. Just cos you can look doesnt mean you should change the rule. The sad thing is it was refs doing it. Ball to hand is obvious and we suffered from it early in season. Travesty of penalties given. If the top of shoulder is now OK the start looking yourselves as refs at the thing and stop the bull
I'd rather see the old offside rule back,if your'e standing offside then it's flagged all this interfering with play/gaining advantage is bollocks. You can have an effect just by drawing the eye of goalie or defender who might then change his position.
So the city West Brom one was interesting yesterday. West Brom should just play to the whistle and to be honest I don’t think keeper is getting anywhere near the shot anyway. However... lineswoman doesn’t flag like they’re told not to in case results in a goal. Silva takes a few touches and then gets to by line. It becomes obvious he’s not going to get a goal scoring chance from there so lino puts flag up. Now, normally the ref would blow the whistle give offside. But for some reason he lets play go on, silva cuts it back, cancello takes a few touches and shoots. this is where it’s awkward because lino has done what they’re told to do. But the ref has played on for an extra 5 seconds and it’s then resulted in a goal scoring chance. This is where consistency is an issue. In theory, the right result was produced as it wasn’t offside, but in how many other games was someone potentially incorrectly flagged offside and because they didn’t shoot right away the whistle was blown?
It is simple. The ref should have blown the whistle as soon as he sees the flag raised. Play stops. No shot. No controversy. No checking by VAR. The ref was at fault in this incident (although technically the attacker was onside by a few inches) and in future should stop the game instantly as soon as the flag is raised. Trust your assistant!
LOLS I'm willing to bet at the end of tuchel's disasters reign John terry will also have slept with his wife as well as be in line for the poisoned chalice.
Anyway, are you all over this disasterous slump in form yet? Unlike you I get these slumps out of the way early so now that i can see the smallest snow drop bursting through I'm ready to predict the sunny uplands for LFC again. you lot need to get yer heads out of the sand once in a while, the league might be over but theres still the CL to look forward to.
Only the assistant was shown to be wrong, so you’re literally advocating that officials should back wrong decisions, and not use the VAR to correct them. I’m sure you’d have exactly the same view if that incident was in tomorrow night’s game and was Liverpool btw, 100% lol.
No. Because the referee couldn't possibly know that the assistant was wrong. The assistants have been told to raise their flags only under certain guidelines. The assistant on this occasion raised their flag and that should mean the referee blowing the whistle instantly. This is what happens in 99%+ of instances. You could argue the right outcome was ultimately arrived at. But WBA would argue that they were aware of the flag and playing to the whistle is rubbish.
