Fergie has said 4 more years. Now it may not come to that but if he did then Dalglish would be 65 by then. Its possible he may retire dont you think. I mean hes only come back into the game for 1 reason and thats to help Liverpool out of trouble.
Well if you include major trophies won with other clubs (Blackburn, Celtic and Aberdeen) SAF is ahead by 33-7. So that'd take some doing for Dalglish to catch him up. If he stayed in management until he turned 75 he'd need to win almost three trophies every two seasons for the next 15 years. Even if you only include English trophies, SAF still leads by 25-6. That's a lead of 19
You'll need to provide evidence of these trophies won Swarbs, or they won't believe that they exist. Anyone else notice he can't even bloody well spell Dalglish? I'm probably not intelligent enough to understand why he is spelling it incorrectly though.
Listen, its highly unlikely Dalglish will get anywhere near Fergusons managerial trophy record (could have something to do with him being at the same club for 24 years) but you lot dismiss him like he's done nothing as a manager. At Liverpool: 3 League Titles and 2 FA Cups in 6 years (sorry that was with someone elses team) At Blackburn: Took the club from the 2nd division to League winners in 4 years (sorry that was because of Money) At Newcastle: Sacked (nothing to do with money, someone elses team, or bad owners. Useless manager given far too much time) At Celtic: Took the job he didnt really want because it was he who recommended Barnes (why i have no idea) won a cup and left At Liverpool again: Took over from Hodgson half way thru the season, inherited a team that everyone said was awful and revitalised them, gaining a points haul in that time that would have seen us in the top 4 (but that was just a 'honeymoon' period) What I find intersting in his Blackburn management is yes he spent money, but if you look at the team that won the league non of those players went on to win much else (you could argue Shearers goal record is an acheivement and he chose to go to Newcastle) so it wasnt as if he went out and bought all the best players from around the world, Blackburn also made profit on most of those players (in the case of Shearer and Sutton they doubled their money) so it wasnt as if they had paid over the odds. So if those players were not able to acheive much else, what was the difference that turned them into a league winning team? Could it just be that a manager who essembled the team, got them playing the right way, motivated them, gave them a winning mentality, made the right decisions had just a little bit to do with it?
Good post mate, but your wasting your time because they wont give Kenny any credit for his achievements as a manager.
Ask KPR. I hear the reason he hates Utd so much is that SAF made him squeal like a bitch in church school... No one's dismissing him like he's done nothing as a manager. But to me he is not one of the all time great managers. He's a good manager who has done well in favourable situations, but then so did Souness (at Rangers), George Graham, Mancini (at Inter), Benitez at Valencia, or even Hodgson at Malmo and Fulham. You can argue the toss about him only having managed for 13 or 14 seasons, but at the end of the day he has done nothing to compare to the great managers like SAF, Mourinho, Paisley, Shankly, Busby or Chapman. He's behind Wenger and Ancelotti in my opinion. Good manager, yes. But when some Liverpool fans start claiming he is the second coming of the Messiah, do you expect us to do anything other than wind you up about it? After all, you do the same every time Rooney gets mentioned as a world class player by anyone.
P.S. Surely that would have been the true test of a great manager? Let those players be sold, then try to reinvest and build another title winning team? After all, Utd also sold Ince, Hughes, Sharpe, Kanchelskis, Bruce, Dublin, Pallister and Robson around the same time and none of those lot went on to win anything else of note apart from Andrei in the SPL. But SAF replaced them, often with young players at massive profits to the club, and then went on to even greater success.
If it's just a wind-up that's fair enough- we have to be able to give and take such stuff. Some posters don't come across like that though, it reads more seriously than that and I for one am getting a bit tired of abuse masquerading as banter. Genuine banter is usually good-natured and, crucially, requires an element of wit. Some of the questions raised over Dalglish's record are valid from the perspective of a non-supporter- in his first spell at Liverpool it's true he inherited a team already at the top of it's game and we don't know how far he could have taken them if circumstances had been different. It's also true that at Blackburn he had good money to spend but that's true of all managers of top level teams and is no indicator. Those using these things as evidence that he will fail are just as guilty of wishful thinking as we are accused of when we show some optimism for a serious title challenge any time soon. The point about the current situation is that after a period of seeing the club in an alarming decline his appointment and record so far has steadied the ship and now gives the fans something to be optimistic about. How well he does in an extended period remains to be seen. As has been pointed out earlier, he's returned too late in life to match Fergie's overall achievements but if he mounts a serious challenge over the next few years and leaves us something to build on then we'll be satisfied. As for trying to make an idiot out of Wazza- well, the daft sod does it fine without any help from us.
Have you read the thread PMK. Nearly all United fans have said he is a good manager but simply not a great like SAF is.
The mistake dalglish has made is not investing in quality. He is going to have spend double what he did this summer to get to united Chelsea level
He was desperate to stay at Celtic. He was begging them but Celtic wanted rid. He was sacked for being rubbish at Newcastle. No idea why you lot think he just left all the jobs of his own free will as its not the case.
Oh that's very interesting. What you actually mean is that you've very nearly managed to certify yourself as being almost dangerous rather than justy being useless! But if you wish to start playing poker with qualifications then come back when you hold a hand like this: Ph.D. MBA MA Marketing Post Graduate Diplomas: Diploma in Management Studies Diploma in Marketing Diploma in European Marketing Management Diploma in International Commerce I won't bother with the more junior awards or Fellowships/Memberships of Chartered or Professional bodies. You on the other hand you clearly understand very very little!
I'm sure there are plenty of people who have degrees, MAs and PhDs who don't know anything about football. All it proves is that you're academically excellent. It has no bearing on your football knowledge.
It doesn't even prove that. I know many people that are thick as **** that have degree's. The main thing it proves is you have a good ability to blag lecturers and remember and regurgitate information. Let's face it, to get a degree the main thing you have to do is apply to get on the course!
I think most of it is a wind up, and mainly links to people just wanting to take the piss (whether they're right or not) out of your hopes that Dalglish will be the manager to win you the PL. After all, I personally have heard Liverpool fans say the same thing about Benitez, Houllier and even Evans! Tho' it does it escalates a bit when some fans start seriously claiming Dalglish is on the same level as some of the greatest managers ever seen. Particularly when they do it based on some very flimsy justifications. I think if I came on the Liverpool board and seriously claimed that Anderson was better than Gerrard cos he'd won more medals, and refused to listen to any counter arguments, the debate would end up in the same pissing contest it has here. Possibly, but then you could say that the people talking up Dalglish's record are also doing it out of a similar sense of optimism, when in reality you'd have to say he will do well to get you up to 2nd or even 3rd place in the next few years given how far you are behind Utd, City and Chelsea at the moment. This I agree with 100%
