I was born in Coventry, family moved down from Stanley/ Quaking houses in thirties. Coventry is home and I’ve grown to appreciate it after living elsewhere, for the most part it’s a decent multicultural city but going up to Sunderland with my boy still feels oddly like going home. Mam was a county Clare girl and west coast of Clare feels the same.
I'm an exile too, left home when I was 18. My wife was a military daughter and moved around a bit. She calls our current location home as we have been here 20 odd years. Whenever I get back it feels the same in some ways - bricks and mortar, old haunts, same old walks and countryside. In other ways it is not the same, too few of the old faces running shops and pubs, not enough people stop me in the street to ask hows things. Ultimately it will always be home to me, but I reckon my life is in the midlands now.
