1st half switzerland were probably the better team, though we did create quite a few good chances. 2nd half better, bale should have earned a penalty so poor decision, then after they went down to 10 men we started to dominate possession and created numerous chances, good win and we're now 4th out of 5, if we win and switzerland lose / draw then we'll go above them into 3rd, now that would represent an excellent start by speed. joe allen proved why he should start ahead of ledley, lovely little player and linked up well with ramsey, i thought williams and blake were poor at times at the back, lacking concentration and could have done better but overall a good 3 points
Just got back from the match. Great result for our country & a great team performance. We are certainly on the up now & go to Bulgaria with real hope of getting a result. Thought everyone generally played well tonight & the fantastic spirit in the side, is so evident. First time I've seen Gareth Bale live. The boy is utter class & the confidence was 'oozing' out of him. He made countless great runs into the box, receiving a great pass from Morison, I think, for his well taken goal. Thought Crofts did a good job again, in front of the back four. He gives us a platform for the other central midfielders to build from. Joe Allen, after maybe an unsure & quiet start, grew into the game, after a fantastic turn out of a awkward position, midway through the 1st half. I've been wanting to see him & Ramsey in the centre, ever since the U21s. Hopefully it's a start of a great international future for those 2 young lads!! Would also like to comment on the partnership between Blake & Williams, a few 'airy moments', but it's looking a little promising for the future!! Finally, well done Speed. You've had you critics, but your really starting to turn around our fortunes. This was a well organised, well drilled, physical, experienced & internationally 'savvy' Swiss side. But we were good value for our win, even allowing for the extra man advantage!! Take a bow Gary......
Great result...should mean another shoot up the rankings ( i know they are **** and dont really reveal the entire picture but its always nice to see up in at least the top 70 lol)
"Joe Allen, after maybe an unsure & quiet start, grew into the game" "joe allen proved why he should start ahead of ledley, lovely little player and linked up well with ramsey" I must agree it did take some time before he grew into the game but I think he would be better than Ledley, who has gone backwards IMO.
people say that cardiff fans are just bitter at how ledley left the club and that they have it in for him but i have to agree, he hasnt done anything to warrant a place in the side for quite a while now. before he was in because there was no competition but now people like allen have to keep their places as he did well last night. add in the fact that allen plays in the PL whilst ledley is in a poor team in an even worse league and its a no brainer for me. gary hooper, a league 1 player 18 months ago, is one of celtics key players, that says it all
Yes, there were a few Welsh boys in the Warwickshire regiment that day! Brilliant result in the Rugby by the way! Good luck against the Frogs. Good to see that Gareth is realising his obvious potential, which we could see at Saints.
History question , when did the 24th of ( warwickshire regiment) foot evolve into the Welch Regiment & South Wales Borderers , just curious
ledley is a class player and should have either gone to a premiership club or stayed at cardiff IMO. he needs to get out of that Micky mouse league in scotland asap..... He is as good if not better than our joe in his prime. its a crying shame he went for the money instead of waiting for better opportunities that would have come along had he waited....fantastic win and well deserved last night.....
i cant speak for ledley obviously but at the time celtic would have been expected to be in the champions league every year and play in front of 50k crowds every other week, he wouldnt get that at stoke or hull. the money was probably slightly higher at celtic but i understood his decision at the time, though since then things have gone from bad to worse in the SPL and he's tied up there for 3 seasons now.
On 11 January, the date the British ultimatum to the Zulus expired, the column crossed the river and encamped on the Zulu bank. A small force consisting of B Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot (2nd/24th) under Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead was detailed to garrison the post, which had been turned into a supply depot and hospital under the overall command of Brevet Major Henry Spalding, 104th Foot Breakdown of British and colonial casualties:[37] 1st/24th Foot: 4 killed or mortally wounded in action; 2 wounded 2nd/24th Foot: 9 killed or mortally wounded in action; 9 wounded Commissariat and Transport Department: 1 killed in action; 1 wounded Natal Mounted Police: 1 killed in action; 1 wounded 1st/3rd NNC: 1 killed in action 2nd/3rd NNC: 2 wounded The 1964 film Zulu is a depiction of the Battle of Rorke's Drift.[52] The film received generally very positive reviews from the critics. Some details of the film's account have, however, been criticized as historically inaccurate (see also: Zulu (film)). For example, in the movie the regiment is called the South Wales Borderers but the unit was not in fact called that until 2 years after the battle, even though the regiment had been based at Brecon in South Wales since 1873.[53] While most of the men of the 1/24 battalion were recruited from the industrial towns and agricultural classes of England, principally from Birmingham and adjacent southwest counties, only 10 soldiers of the 1/24 that fought in the battle were Welsh. Many of the soldiers of the junior battalion, the 2/24, were Welshmen.[54] Of the 122 soldiers of the 24th Regiment present at the Battle of Rorke's Drift, 49 are known to have been of English nationality, 32 were Welsh, 16 were Irish, 1 was a Scot, and 3 were born overseas. The nationalities of the remaining 21 are unknown
