I agree with you, the appointments of Speakman, Johnson and Davison are an indication of who is pulling the strings and in my opinion it's not Donald. I also reckon the wage cap is having a bigger effect on signing players than we think and movement out will happen before we can bring anyone in
What's the EFL got on their plate atm? Derby, Wigan? Would imagine until they're sorted we won't hear anything.
I wish I'd never left Consett. The trouble is, once you've moved away it's hard to go back. After years away my accent has no doubt changed and, probably, some of my attitudes. I'd stand out like an albino crow.
Same here. Left Sunlun in 66 and quite honestly have never ever thought of moving back. Travelling the world (57 countries) and living in 6 broadens your whole outlook on life and it certainly changed me. However I can tell you that whichever country I have been too I have told everybody around about SAFC especially when talking about King Chqrlie/ 63/64 season and of course 1973
It’s very hard to return. I left in 1984. I never had an accent although I don’t know why. As much as I identify as coming from Sunderland and, up to a point, Durham as well, I’m the same as you. My attitudes will definitely have changed.
Nah, you’d be fine. Lots of people from other places live there now.... lots of new housing. Friend of mine who’s lived there all his life.. he’s pushing 70 now... remarked it was the first time he’d walked along Middle St. and not seen anyone he knew. One of life’s little ironies.... you can never go back.It won’t be the same.
If that's the case I may as well stay away tbh. My memories of the NE are precious and I wouldn't want them ruined.
I’m from consett never had any bother on the pitch in chopwell or Blackhall Mill....then again they’ve always loved a left winger
Always welcome back mate, two bus loads to every home game and a bus to a fair share of away games as well. real mix of old timers and young uns thriving branch up here although we lost a great fella to COVID recently.
Is Yagers, the butchers, still there. Whenever we drove up from Mansfield for the match, I'd have to go there to collect my Mam's order she'd phoned through The other lads would moan like f**k but I was the only one with a car.
I know quite a few of them, fair few moved from Stanley to Consett. One of them got married a few year ago, the stag night was a weekend in London, Millwall away. I attended in a wheelchair as I broke my leg a few days before, was a good weekend.
Davey Yaeger was a mate of mine when I was late teens early 20's, his dad drove me to Shotley casualty when I snapped my tib and fib on a sunday morning kick about opposite the old highgate in Bridge Hill.
Many years ago we had bother at High Spen following a cup match, at full time a gang of lads pushed their way into our dressing room to try to get at our full back who had given their winger a few kicks. They completely bottled it when he stood up and they seen the size of him and how cut he was without a shirt on. We still had to walk through a hostile crowd onto our bus with a few things lobbed over the top at us.
