My ancestor came into this country with William the Conquerer. He was of noble blood and was given land up here and was probably involved in the Harrying of the North. Sorry about that. :emoticon-0111-blush

Following on from the surname ancestry - did a search on mine this morning - one notable fact was that a namesake born in Sunderland died on HMS Hood was sunk by the Bismark.

Seen the movie a number of times - next time I watch it it will take on an added meaning.

Going to do some more digging to see if we are related.

Aye the arse burn the day after can be a bit unpleasant, luckily my body is well tuned to hot stuff now after years of loving hot and spicy food, very rare I get a stinging ring piece now, those sausages are supposedly lethal though.

Well I never knew that. Most of my family could walk past me and I wouldn’t be able to recognise them. I think I’ll just disown them anyway!

Great shop. I bought their Bhut Jolokia & Jalapeño seedlings last year. Their mega-hot sauce is pokey too.

I'd say not so much nasty but total bastards to play against. One of the reasons I liked Bellamy, quick, didn't stop running, good player and a right niggly little bastard.

Off topic, @Prehab26 , hope your missus is soon better, and I'm descended from border reivers too.

Hate the horrible little twat but one thing I think he did better than anyone was winding players up, even though the centre half he was playing against knew he hadn't been shagging his wife up the arse, its still not nice to hear. I've heard he used to be like that every game constantly and the ****er in the hat used to encourage all the time even though he hated the little twat as well

Yeah. The BJ’s never sprouted fruit. They just grew into green plants. I think I’m glad!

We've got a few players with a little bit of bite, O'Nien, Gooch and Maguire but it's been a while since we had a tough nut CM, we're soft in that area in particular. Also we've signed a few tall lads since the midget era but they're either soft (Wyke) or skinny (Flanagan), bit of height and muscle wouldn't go amiss. Might finally score from corners.

They sound it! I'm still reeling at how much of a pasting my lot took. I mean, this sounds fairly comprehensive , I'm amazed the surname survived, they sound bloody useless!

"Their greatest enemies were the powerful Johnston clan, and the numerous squabbles between the two families culminated in the murder of Robert Moffat, the clan chief, by the Johnstons in the sixteenth century. The Johnstons went on to burn the building in which most of the Moffat family notables had gathered, and slaughtered all those who tried to escape. In one blow, the powerful Moffat clan was all but wiped out. Some seventy years after these events, the Moffat lands passed to the Johnston family, as a result of the Moffats’ overwhelming debts."

It's easy to look at all this and think it was just all a mystical time in the past.

But when you see your family tree laid out and it goes back to direct relatives it all makes sense.

My lovely relative in Chopwell has researched our family back hundreds of years and has references in various old books about my direct ancestors. My grandad was born in the 1800's and his grandad, who he often talked about, in the 1700's ...

... it's not that far back in the grand scheme of things.

If the sword had swung in a different direction neither of us might ever have been born mate.
