Not really sure it's recognition as such when it's going to 12 thousand people plus tbf.

Like I say I'll take it though.

Ah the poor EU joint procurement programme is failing again. Boris is a total muppet for bragging about ‘getting in first’ though.

He is, yeah. Bragging isn't really appropriate in the circumstances.

Especially given the fact we are clear world leaders of the international death league.

Delaying 2nd doses and going against medical advice, so more people can get banged up with the 1st dose won't end well.

Some experts say it’s ok, some say it’s not. Who to believe? It seems like a calculated punt based on how ****ed we are and the lack of confidence in getting supply of the gear any time soon in great enough numbers.

Not sure if any of the adult countries are doing the same thing which would be reassuring.

I have no problem with us taking a calculated risk. I don’t really blame the government too much for getting loads wrong over the last year; scientists, doctors, politicians, everyone is guessing.

Boris and his cheerleaders in the press can **** off with the jingoistic crowing and point scoring though.

Well yeah there is that. Hopefully Sarah Vine will do the honourable thing and go out with a domestic murder-suicide but it’s unlikely. We have to build the narrative that he’s tried ever so hard and nobody could have done any better and it’s all the public’s fault for not being able to afford to not work.

Miss the line graphs at the briefings. They were the best bit.

My particular favourite was Stay Alert, Control the Virus.

    Obviously we weren’t alert enough.

We are the only country in the world doing this, according to a doctor on TV last night... the manufacturers are specifying 3 to 4 weeks for the 2nd dose ... this is all about spin statistics on totals of vaccinations ... not some ground breaking science on the best gap between the 2 jabs ...

"Delaying the second coronavirus vaccines poses "Boris's biggest gamble", according to the Sunday People. The paper claims that dozens of care home residents have died from Covid-19 after receiving their first jab. In its editorial, it suggests the residents are being "thrown to the wolves".

I don’t doubt they’ll never miss a good PR opportunity or a bit of tub-thumping but it is a bit more than that. When you’ve got a ****load of the virus around and an old, not particularly healthy population it makes sense to give more people something than fewer people a bit more resistant. As long as a single dose doesn’t massively reduce its effectiveness over time.

Not that that helps the most vulnerable stuck on a single dose for however much longer.

... for me it's the arrogance that is worrying ... the manufacturers have done their testing with 3 to 4 week intervals and say they have not tested 12 weeks ... so we are ignoring the medical advice behind the science in favour of some that is not ... smacks of how we ignored actual sage advice at the outset in favour of Cummings cherry picked SAGE extracts ... once burned ...

The medical advice is not consistent or uniform tbf. There is more than one opinion among the scientific community, because this whole thing is new and everyone is uncertain. The government is certainly gambling, but hopefully it is an informed gamble, in which case fair enough. It's about managing the risk. Risk can only ever be managed, not eradicated.

Not that I trust this government one little bit, but I'm prepared to cut them some slack occasionally.

Anyone seen the news article where carers in a home were refusing the vaccine, the employer claims, due to their employment contracts, he can't do anything about it. I expect Fosse has mentioned it somewhere, I've probably just missed it, not coming on here so often.
