Sky will already have a team of top lawyers working out a way around this.

Theres too much money at stake for the Murdochs to give up without a fight.

This ruling will have Murdoch raging I should think, he will be wondering what can go wrong next, He`s still not out of the woods yet, on the phone tapping scandal. Having to close down the News Of The World must have cost him more than a few bob. And as Davie 1956 points out

Quick question then as I hate Murdoch and his principles. I am sure when Sky renegotiate their contracts to other countries they will iron out this loop, however is this likely to mean people will be able to purchase and install decoders at home or is it too difficult for the armchair fan to do this? I am genuinely interested, I mean are we going to see people swiftly switching to these decoders, are they easy to get hold of and install?

You can do it now if you want.

I was looking into it last year when Virgin stopped the Eurovox boxes, but I have massive hills South/SE/SW of me, the satelite is on the horizon to the South, so cant get it to work where I live at all, unless I would be doing it.

For the best setup its not cheap though, but i worked it out at about £400 for a medium priced box and dish from memory.

This along with UEFA's new financial rules is the end of the premier league as we have become familiar with.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but you do realise this isn't that great news? Sure, we consumers benefit from cheaper matches on TV but Sky won't continue to pay the amounts they currently do (ie billions) for TV rights -the end result? Sky will stop paying such ludicrously high fees for TV rights which means the FA then lowers the amount they will accept for UK rights to show the games which in turn means less revenue is passed on to the clubs. Non European cup clubs will suffer big time as TV rights are one of the principal revenue streams and with Sky not willing to stump up the cash it may even lead to individual TV deals for the bigger clubs (like in La Liga). Sure, it's a victory now, but it could come back to bite us all in the arse later...

Or it could lead to salary caps or financial fair play for all clubs. Man utd could sell there own TV rights but they have still got to have someone to play, if all the other clubs boycotted playing them, then no more Man Utd, they can't just play themselves.

But they will play them as they get full houses, and they will probably get more money from Man Uniteds TV deal than they would playing Fulham for example (I am not sure how it works in Spain though, whether the opposing team gets more for playing the likes of Barca than Deportivo)

    maybe not then

This along with the financial fair play rules will send the premier league back to the dark ages...

Platini's financial fair rules are a direct attack upon the premier league its success and the success of English clubs in Europe.

We either stand by and watch the demise of everything we have become accustomed to in recent years, or the FA in conjunction with officials from the Premier League stand up, reveal their balls and market the Premier League in direct competition to the champions league.

**** the financial fair play rules, **** Platinis 'European dream' as most of our clubs in England won't ever get to feature in the (1st to 4th place league). We will be watching clubs comprised of 100% homegrown talent, no longer will we see the Malbranques and Zendens at SAFC again... It's all coming down a road near you...

If Sky are smart they will do the following:

Go to the Premier League and say they want the rights to show every game. With digital they can sell "The season ticket" where you select your club and on top of the normal games they show you can watch all your club of choices games. The extra revenue is split evenly among all the EPL clubs. Attendances would be down but with the extra money coming in from TV clubs could lower ticket prices and fill the grounds again. Its win win for everyone.

Lets face it we can all watch the 3pm KO on the Internet at the moment anyway and their are plenty of pubs showing the games now, so would it really make that much difference? I go to the games because I love the atmosphere, the occassion, TV can never beat that. I would go to every home game if I could afford it.

But surely, and this is totally hypothetical btw.

If Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool fail the FFP from this season onward, then they will be kicked out of Europe in 3 years time, so that will leave it open for Everton, Villa, Sunderland, Newcastle to have a crack, so the power shift may begin then.

I am not saying this will definately happen, but it is a possiblity.

This is also the reason we are seeing 5-6 year player contracts in all clubs, and not 3-4 like you used to get.

It's a possibility however the corruption runs so deep through the veins of football that anything is possible...

Man City have already circumvented the FPP by announcing their 10 year stadium naming rights, awarded to Etihad Airways for the miniscule total of £400 million... Plus and this is very important.. They retained the core of quality that they have recently acquired.... so, they now have the squad in position and the finance to support that squad for the next decade and to be honest, if the Premier League don't stand up and market the Premier League in direct competition to the 1st to 4th place league, I hope Man City win the champions league for the next 10 years off the trot, purely to wipe the smile from Platinis face, the man who has directly attacked the Premier League with his 'fair play vision'. Platini isn't concerned about Real Madrid being funded by the Spanish tax payer, thats fair in his eyes.

Its a 10 year deal worth £10 million a year isnt it? not £40 million a year.

And Arsenals was £100 million over 15 years, but that was back in 2004.

So if that is the case, there doesnt seem to be anything wrong with it to me.

    It's £400 million Steve.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...chester-City-fresh-controversy-400m-deal.html

Plus, there isn't anything wrong with the deal as Etihad can pay whatever they feel is fair value. Up yours Platini.

^^ wrong. They have to pay a fair Market price added to this the fact that ethiad have yet to turn a profit and also that the owner is sheiks cousin (not allowed by fair play rules). There is plenty wrong with the deal but uefa will let it slide as they're too pathetic to enforce their rules.
