    That's a bit strong isn't it? What do you expect with so much riding on a 2-2 result. <whistle>

    of course he wouldn't. Roy's a manager who views 17th as success.

    But in his honest opinion, that is good enough and an achievement for a small club like Liverpool. He really believes that.

    Who would you nominate to be captain after the disaster that was the 2010 World Cup?

    Now you can see why I dont follow England anymore, the "England' football team are average at best, bit like a Liverpool*, living on past glory, but really we are not that good.

    And Rooney, stupid scouser

    * No disrespect to Liverpool

    Is that the best you can do to justify his shoddy display of leadership and motivation throughout the tournament? <laugh> <laugh>

    You're quite comical, you know that?

    England would have won something by now if the FA had the balls to hold on to Hoddle or Venables for that matter.

    I think Englands desperation to win something prevents them from using the Euros as they were intented, to rebuild your squad to a young energetic side capable of challenging for the WC, which is surely the whole point of International competitionIn the grand scheme of things who gives a **** about the Euros?The Germans do it to great effect and South American Nations do it regularly with the Copa America.

    lf you keep playing the same tired, desperate players who know only disappointment at International you will continue to get the same tired and desperate performances and the results will follow.IMO, unless a player is absolute top drawer he should be dropped if he will be 32 or over come the next WC.That way you give the next generation a fighting chance of success by improving team cohesion and keeping fitness levels at an optimin as tournament Football is very demanding phsyically.

    I thought he was ok. He was the only player trying things to turn the games around when we were in the ****, no one else looked brave enough. I don't see anyone who could do a better job.

    That would be a nightmare. No way on this earth should he be made captain. It would be like Fabregas given it at Arsenal.

    Ashley Cole. Cos he has the most caps and for no other reason than that. We'll never achieve anything if we keep trying to make one of our current players into the next Bobby Moore or Bryan Robson. We don't have any players that are capable of doing that for the current national team on a regular basis imo, so we should stop trying. The captaincy should be ceremonial and the manager should get everyone to act like leaders on the pitch rather than dumping pressure on one player's shoulders, particularly someone who's only barely old enough to vote...

    thats the problem swarbs,not enough players are on the 30-40 cap mark.since beckham we have struggled to have a player who can be regarded as first name on the sheet to be warranted being given the captains job,apart from one player who could do the job as he has a long future with england but is a hothead.and yes he is the title of this thread.

    gerrard is a great leader on the field and he does motivate players and the fans,the same as rooney COULD,dont get me wrong if only rooney could curb his "hothead" moments i would be for one a rooney fan for the england captaincy roll.
    IF ONLY THE ENGLAND TEAM ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO HAD A MANAGER CALLED SIR BOBBY ROBSON!!!!!!

    Will we ever have a manger brave enough to do that? If/when Redknapp gets the job you can guarantee he will stick with the way we have always done it.
