I agree that him an average L1 keeper and I do hope with the new recruitment team they are able to unearth a hidden gem, a bit like when we signed Given on loan, no one had heard of him and he was top draw for the season he was with us, shame he went to the mags and turned into a bell end
I would not be surprised to see things starting to leak about approval during the course of the next couple of days, through Johnson the club are basically telling some fans to stop worrying and it’s going to happen
Totally agree we are very inept at breaking down 10 men defence. We need someone in midfield who can see the opening and be pacy enough in thought and deed to carry out the defence splitting pass. What we have are players who see the opening but are too slow to react.
Absolutely spot on, I would also add that this is when our lack of quality even for League one is obvious.
he’s only COO. It’s not a high profile role and should never need to be public facing. When your COO is in the news you’re usually in trouble
Yes, there are basics any keeper will have or should have or be competent in. We have had more than our share of keepers not up to doing the basics these past five years. Any decent keeper will, or should be, a good reader of the game and able to organise his defenders .. Being in command of your box is for me a priority to let your defence know what you are going to do and you will cope. Unfortunately, too many indecisions in the defence caused by poor choices by our keepers result in letting someone else take care of a cross , dribble or pass into the area. that has cost us dearly recently in giving goals away early doors, in the main players buck passing. Thankfully, one of the main culprits has left the club now.
That's a bit of a shame. 35 years a supporter and a very successful career then lands a job at his home club and won't even get on the podcast with Danny and Frankie unless the wheels are coming off.
On the Burge debate - he does not feel safe to me - I always think he has a mistake in him - he seems to make what seem simple saves overly difficult as if trying to show how good he is. A keeper like Darren Ward would do for me steady and safe.
They had most of the attacking play!!!? You must of watched a different game to me, we werent great but had most of the possesion just failed to kill it off earlier.
I would say you are spot on there but nobody knows when that final tick in the box will be there will be a few who could be guessing mind.
I know this is the takeover thread so I’ll try and keep this short. The debate around Wyke being a shocking striker and Burge being a poor keeper who has no confidence and worries his defenders with his quiet and non demanding style really has me beat. As I’ve stated recently, Wyke has the 3rd best strike rate in the league, Burge has the best clean sheet percentage of any first choice keeper in the league and only Portsmouth have conceded less goals than us ( 15 to our 17 ) What am I missing? Wyke is a crap striker but he scores plenty of goals? Burge is a crap keeper but he concedes less goals than all but 1 other keeper in league 1? If the game is no longer about scoring the most goals and conceding the least, let me know and I’ll review my thought process. P.S. Sorry it wasn’t as short as I’d hoped
It's not as simple as that. If a striker scored they've done something special and that's why Wyke deserves credit, a keeper can get through a game with barely a save to make and get a clean sheet if the defence do their job. If you think Burge is regularly making great saves to earn his clean sheets then fair enough, not really what I've been seeing.
Poor finishing from them we could of quite easily have conceded, i did watch it and we were woeful in midfield and they played through us on numerous occasions like most teams do. My point was we didn’t play well but came away with 3 goals and 3 points we just need to be more consistent.
I have a mate at the club who sends me the odd message. He's not one of the 'in crowd' and you could say he's on a par with a cloakroom attendant so virtually invisible but sees everyone who comes in and out . He's just messaged to say there's a couple of middle aged men together there he's not seen before but definitely not Louis-Dreyfus, too old. That's it so I can't add anything further as he's at work but, as he's taken a minute to send a text, I'm assuming it's not just media or whatever. It could be scouts I suppose but too old to be an agent with a player. If I get any follow ups I'll post them but not until after the match.
