Jeesus are people really comparing Speed to Tiote... Yes Tiote is a quality player, however a bit inconsistant. Tiote needs to prove himself a wee bit more in my opinion. Gary Speed was always at the very least 'good', and cos cheik is always giving away freekicks and yellowcards he CAN be a liability... God rest my soul! And wheres Rob Lee in all this??

People assuming HBA will do better then Bellamy in the prem, be careful its not written in stone by a long chalk.

when bobby's Team was in it's prime... 2001/2 season?

    Shay Given Tim Krul
    Aaron Hughes Danny Simpson
    Nikos Dabizas Steve Taylor
    Andy O'brien Fabriccio Coloccini
    Olly Bernard Ryan Taylor
    Nobby Solano Gabrielle Obertan
    Gary Speed Cheik Tiote
    Jermaine Jenas Yohan Cabaye
    Laurent Robert Jonas Gutierrez
    Craig Bellamy Hatem Ben Arfa
    Alan Shearer Demba Ba

I make that 8-3 to Sir Bobby's Team.

Not surprising really, we were challenging in the Champions League then, we're just outside Europe now. also, Tiote, Ben Arfa, Ba, Overtan etc can still improve!

Steven Taylor wasn't first team in Sir Bobby's time btw. It was Robbie Elliot, Dabizas, Dystain and Titus who were normally in the first team!

    Shay Given Tim Krul
    Aaron Hughes Danny Simpson
    Nikos Dabizas Steve Taylor
    Andy O'brien Fabriccio Coloccini

    Gary Speed Cheik Tiote
    Jermaine Jenas Yohan Cabaye*

Shay was the ultimate shot stopper.. position was canny, shouting at the back line was poor in all honesty... Krul can be immense, probs be snapped up by Man U.. Big fan of Shay mind thats why I can see his weak points.

I have to agree with this. Bellamy, although a total peenarse, was always a danger for us and has proven his quality in the prem over a number of years. Quite a few people seem to be basing their opinion of HBA on past reputation as a 'wonderkid' and the odd glimpse of quality he has shown for us. No doubt there is a chance that he could be brilliant for us, but until he proves that I won't get ahead of myself.

    Narrow 4-1-3-1-1

    Given
    Hughes - Taylor - Coloccini - Bernard
    Tioté
    Solano - Cabaye - Speed
    Ben Arfa
    Shearer

That is the current Taylor in there, with more experience and consistency, although if Woodgate was capable of not being a crock he'd have his place.

    I agree.

Good answer.... however, I remember watching him run down the middle ball stuck to his feet, keeps coming keeps coming, Im thinking look up shoot, pass its on!!!!! keeps coming, looks up slightly too late, wasted. This wasnt just one observation but many... he has come on leaps and bounds but still think hes over-rated and a bit of a ****. Went to the boxing at the arena, shearer, speed etc turned up in suits, that little ****er turned up in a hoody head down... hes a prick.

    ---------------Krul*
    Hughes---Taylor--Coloccini---Santon*
    ----------Tioté - Cabaye
    Solano-------Ben Arfa -------Robert
    --------------Shearer

    *will be better with time

(the management of SBR would improve the exact same team over AP)

I can understand the people who have picked Speed also. He was a fantastically consistent performer for us and very rarely let us down. Plus he was a beast in the air. Really underrated from my point of view.

Yes he was only there a season but that was probably our best season. The original post said Steven Taylor, and he never started a match under Sir Bob!
