That was a mistake caused by his injury, he shouldnt of been on the pitch as he had a blind spot. You can tell watching the goal back that he goes to catch the ball then lost sight of it
Whether it was because of his injury or not it was still him costing us points. If he couldn't see he should have gone off instead of knowingly being a liability.
'Burge had a nightmare there' - Sunderland fans slam opening 45 minutes as they trail Bristol Rovers at HT Sunderland trail 1-0 at the break at the Stadium of Light after an early Bristol Rovers penalty following a mistake by Lee Burge. Drew 1-1 after a flap from Burge leaving the defence in disarray for the rest of the game.
After that 1-1 draw with top of the table side hull, the defence were left in such disarray and the team so demoralised that they barely scraped through their next game with a 3-0 win away to Wimbledon. Another clean sheet for Burge and his demoralised defenders and a hat-trick for the woeful Charlie Wyke. I tried my best to make it fit your narrative
Many moons ago I used to play in a five a side league, our keeper wore jam jar bottoms fastened on with a bit of cloth, he was as blind as a fcuking bat. I still laugh at this even now. Apologies for the drift.
Does anyone know if Steve Davison has actually started in his role yet? I'm surprised there is no interview with him on the club website yet, not even a photo or anything.
What narrative, I gave two factual examples to answer the blokes question accurately. Sorry if that bothers you
Takeover what takeover ,did someone mention a takeover , only being facetious toward all the posts on the wrong thread !
So that's 4 points he's cost us with 2 mistakes, I wonder how many keepers have made less than 2 mistakes this season. If Burge is that bad who would you sign that would be possible, I'm not actually a fan of him I'm just not sure in our position who else we could bring in
Its easy to recognise someone who isnt very good, but why would you assume that they would know a better option? Thats the job of the club to do that, it would help if they stopped signing utter **** (Thats in general wasnt aimed at Burge specifically )
Yep. But Lincoln play an open game and we went ahead quite early. It's when we are behind or going for a win we look bereft of ideas, and other teams will notice it
Something I've said for a long time and it was what was missing on Tuesday . I know Neil is a young lad but he's is the type of player that can creative Something with one decisive pass, if people think he is too inexperienced then we need someone able to do that type of thing. Yes wyke can score goals but only if someone puts it on a plate for hin. I remember one pre season game Neil took one touch around the half way line to cut inside his marker with his second he played an inch perfect ball to Grigg who took one touch to control it and the second to put it in the bottom corner. I think it's too late for Grigg but I do think one of the biggest problems he's had since he came was they are the types of balls he thrives on and they were the ones he never got. I totally agree about the central midfield being our biggest problem and you can look at speed , strength but the one thing I think we really miss in there is pure quality
I wonder if KLD is going for a 'soft power' approach, judge me by my actions rather than my words? Perhaps we will only get a short announcement stating that the takeover is complete with a few words about looking to the future In a way I hope so as we seem to have been talking about owners too much perhaps now is the time to talk about the club, the academy and the team. It might make a refreshing change
We went ahead at Wimbledon and looked void of ideas after the goal, they had most of the attacking play, yet we still managed to come away with a 3-0 win, my point is, the current players need to up their game, we have proven we can win games, they have it in there, however with a couple of additions in my honest opinion, I think we will climb rapidly and go on a decent run, that’s me being optimistic
Someone pretty damn good I'd like to imagine with the new people at the helm. Burge isn't the worst keeper I've seen in my life at least he's an ok shot stopper, but as I've said I rate confidence highly in a keeper and I don't think he has any. If anyone disagrees that's fine, we're all entitled to our opinion. There's got to be some under 21 keepers who fall outside of the salary cap who will command their box and be decent shot stoppers, almost all professional keepers are after all.
Imho the takeover is done as can be demonstrated by the appointments we've already seen really it's just putting the final tick in the box and then we can concentrate on the football for a while I hope
Hopefully LJ is the answer and Speakman having a decent recruitment team is going to make all the difference. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion and who they think is ****, I have exactly the same view of Power yet a couple of people I know actually rate him. It was just a genuine question as to who at this level would be better than Burge. We've been in this league long enough if you watch the games to pick up on a decent keeper. I rate the lad at Portsmouth but I doubt we could get near him. I think the only options we have in changing or keeper is signing another L1 standard keeper that I don't think would be an improvement, getting a younger keeper on loan from a top team, or a 30+ keeper that's played at a higher level coming to the end of his career
