I know that I'm talking to a bunch of Phillistines whose cerebral pursuits amount to shouting at the telly during The Jeremy Kyle Show, but did any of you watch 'This Week', the late night political show on BBC 1 on Thursday night?

One of the guests was Mark Watson, the comedian and Bristol City fan. He was discussing being 'the underdog' with Andrew Neill, Michael Portillo and John Prescott. He claimed that City are perennial underdogs, with the recent pinnacle of success being the playoff loss to Hull City, much to the amusement of Prescott who used to be a Hull MP prior to his elevation to the House of Lords.

I found this a bit strange. You are undeniably one of the better funded clubs in the Championship.

Do you perceive yourselves to be 'underdogs'?

No, not underdogs, I do think that we're under achievers though as we should be in The Prem/Europe etc.

    'should' rather than 'could'?
    That sums up the problem!

'A perennial plant or simply perennial (Latin per, "through", annus, "year") is a plant that lives for more than two years' ....We are in our 5th year in the Championship and I feel like we are just about to start...Mark had it right....

Andrew Neill, Michael Portillo and John Prescott.....What diverse opinion,Prescott doesn't normally appeal but he has got balls as big as his mouth, what a smack in the gob he gave the egg man,top marks, but his free flats at various locations Marble Arch blah, blah makes him a free loader,I still like him,sorry..

We are underdogs until we get the freedom of our new stadium and the natural drag of dwelling in our own self doubt but you would know all about that Bbd being a Bristol boy..

I certainly wouldn't describe you as underdogs. Christ, if you're underdogs, we must be Cerberus - the ultimate very, very, very under-dog!

I think that it probably reflects more on Bristol as the country's biggest footballing underdog city.

And yes Wize, I like Prescott too. He's so objectionable he's great!

Yes i do see us as underdogs. We are a small club at the end of the day, no bigger than the likes of barnsley and watford etc. BUT we do have the potential and i would like to see us properly challenge one day with the new stadium and a DECENT manager at helm. <ok>

We are not well funded in the football sense. Our chairman is worth 3/4 billion quid and throws us financial morsels to keep us in the black, 20million here, 5million there.

Our expected 'norm' imo should be cc mid-table at worst with the occasional season or 2 in the prem.

Our local council and politicians are holding us back to a certain extent - it counts for a lot
