I lived in Italy, worked for an Italian millionaire and was appalled at what a basket case the country is ... ... tbh it's an absolute shambles of a country but they don't seem to care. I'd have expected them to be significantly worse than the UK, virus wise, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I've no idea why tbh.
C "Corbyn attacks Boris Johnson for securing millions of coronavirus jabs for brits, accusing him of vaccine nationalism" Daily Express Monday.
Very good summary there. It's not one thing it is a series of bad decisions that have got us where we are now, and who signs all those bad decisions off?
None of those countries have a moat around them tbf. No matter who was PM people would've died here ... ... but he has contributed to the death toll with some of his dithering tbf. "Belgium has been cited by the UK health secretary, Matt Hancock, as a model for getting coronavirus under control."
Daily Express headlines, try listening to what he actually said in the video, it bears no resemblance to the headlines and is complete common sense.
I would never listen to a word that man says, an IRA terrorist sympathizer gets no air time in my house. I simply read the Express online each day and unfortunately that lunatic was in it on Monday.
He certainly has dithered and Hancock is an idiot. Not to mention bloody Gavin Williamson. Comparisons, either good or bad, with the opposition or with other leaders seem pointless though. Not only is it divisive, which seems to be the point of bringing it up, but no one has any way of knowing how they would operate under the same circumstances.
Ignorance is bliss? Not sure you can form a credible opinion on something by not gathering all of the information and being told what to think by the Daily Express.
I think John Major would've been better in this situation tbh, he was analytical and cold. Johnson idolises Churchill and that ideology doesn't fit with this crisis. The message, from the PM, is 'let's all get out there and fight this virus together' ... ... it should be 'run, hide and be afraid or this will kill you and everyone around you'. He's perhaps the right man but definitely at the wrong time.
On a theoretical basis, what he said about 'vaccine nationalism' and global cooperation does make absolute sense. The thing is, the WHO have also made comments along the same lines. As an international organisation they're better placed to make such comments. Corbyn, who has repeatedly made statements or done things that have been interpreted as anti-British, was always going to draw criticism for saying this.
You and the anti-Tories are the only people that say that repeatedly. Nobody else does as far as I can see
I can think of several former leaders whose approach would be more to my personal preference. I would have preferred a much firmer hand. I still think there are too many factors to be able to say with any confidence that someone else's approach might have been better. Part of me feels that they haven't come down as heavily as they could (should) have done because they were concerned that the public wouldn't stand for it.
The Daily Gets much worse! Still it supported Brexit, as I did.. but the other stuff obsession with the weather, Sturgeon and mocking Harry/Megan, Oddball commentators having a go at anything not right wing. Similar to a watered down Fox News, echo chamber
I read them all, I find it amusing the spin each puts to the same story. I form my own opinion based upon much more than the express or Mail etc, I don’t need the express to convince me Corbyn is a fruitcake, he done that himself.
Corbyn was speaking at the launch of Project for Peace and Justice and has the the same right to freedom of expression as we all have. I just pointed out that he never said what someone claimed that he did say.
Newspapers don’t form my opinion, I read them all and 90% of it is toilet paper. My opinion matters as does yours and everyone else’s. Some people tend to gather the pitchforks up and round on people who’s opinion they don’t like, it’s a sad reflection of today’s society
Excellent summary marra, what I also disliked was the allocation of contracts to family and friends and the £13b spent on track and trace
