:emoticon-0103-cool::emoticon-0103-cool::emoticon-0103-cool::emoticon-0127-lipss:emoticon-0127-lipssI thought Palmer started well but then faded as did the rest of them. Needs decent players around him to play off of, not sure we possess them!!
Rowe or Hunt doesn’t do it for me, both have blinkers on IMO, distribution seems a guessing game.
Team looks disjointed, very little link ups and struggled to put moves together, struggled to put more than two passes together.
The difference between the two teams at times were embarrassing.
I know this might be slightly contentious :emoticon-0127-lipss but I’m struggling to see the impact Dean has in changing things during games. IMO something LJ was better at especially if we were down at half time.. just my opinion of the games I’ve watched this season..
    I await the backlash :emoticon-0103-cool:

As a LJ supporter I can see the difference.
In the later times, LJ set us out as an away team - to try not to concede and maybe hit on the break or from a set piece - but not attack. Also from an interview with Brownhill we were told that LJ didn’t like his players shooting from outside the box.
DH is slightly different in that he TRIES to attack (we saw this in the start of the second half tonight) but simply hasn’t got the players to do it effectively.
We have a bunch of ‘nearly’ players, who display just enough flashes of brilliance to suggest that they are, actually, brilliant, but then they fail to pick out a simple pass or make a simple run.
Norwich barely stood still when they had the ball. We on the other hand during the time we were in possession, stood on the ball and allowed Norwich to regroup and often got dispossessed.
I agree that Bentley, Mawson and Kalas were good tonight. The rest were about at their level - perhaps with the exception of Semenyo who can’t really be judged on 10 minutes.

Sorry I worded it wrong. I don’t really rate Palmer just out of the current midfield he is the only one who can pick out a pass. To me he has the talent but not the desire.

That’s what we’ve been playing? Hence Wells out on the wings.

Until Mark Ashton and Dean Holden go this club is stagnating and the fan base is divided even more than it was before.

Stephen Lansdown has some serious thinking to do.

Bristol Bears top of the table under Pat Lamb -Bristol City under the previous failed managers sidekick has gone backwards it was better under Lee Johnson.

Our performances have been poor I admit but it was no better with LJ, we are still 9th in the table with a game in hand on some, we have had Covid 19 hit us, savage injury problems but so far we are holding in there, with some of our better players returning, the consistency should improve and who knows if DH gets the same freedoms and support LJ had with new signings we may see some fresh faces at the Gate and a new dynamism return, it all depends on whether MA crawls out of his hole and becomes active.

We are certainly not in a worse position than we were in which caused LJ's demise.

I suppose, with hindsight, the subs should have been made at half time, but I agreed with the changes that were made. I don't think Deano did a lot wrong really - yes we lost, so there are obviously things that could have been better, but I can't really point the finger at Deano and say that he screwed up.
We lost to the runaway league leaders at their place - no shame in that.

Disagree Wiz under Johnson we did play some decent football however was shocking the last two years.
The football under Holdon is mind numbing -not one shot in anger last night-not one header on target.

This has been going on for the majority of his games in charge.

The guy plays players in wrong positions -substitutions are mind boggling.

The speel about injuries i find hard to take.

Walsh struggled when he arrived-hence out on loan to Coventry we still don't know if he will be good enough for a spot in the first team.

Williams from Wigan new player don't know how he will go.

Mawson was a big loss-but Fulham got him back on the pitch-where he would still be injured under city's guidance.

Weimann is a loss-probably the biggest loss at present.

    Baker another massive loss.

But the rest are squad players.

Players don't seem up for it.

Wells looks a third division player.
Martin was fantastic when arrived looks so dejected at present.
Fammy playing out of his skin for a move,
Palmer was fantastic playing with Afobe now looks a fraction of the player.
Bentley has saved Holden from some big losses -been city's best player this season.

You cannot have it both ways, Holden is constrained by the same if not worse problems that you use as excuses for LJ, the way the club is run by Ashton and enabled by the owner. If anything it is worse because when Brownhill was sold that was all the family silver gone, so Holden doesn't have the ability to trade his way out, because I can only see Bentley possibly worth more than we paid for him, how many of the match day squad did Holden actually sign? the answer is 2 and both loans, just imagine that as another LJ excuse? and the one player he did buy to try to cement our annually failing midfield, was it would appear 'shot in the foot by our own staff'.

The signings of Palmer, Massengo, Wells were all costly mistakes and the handling of them plus Diedhiou, Williams and Walsh by the club is a disgrace.

Bristol City were fine v Preston then second (outclassed) all over the pitch v Norwich. Truth can be somewhere in between.

Wells will be a mistake if that is going to be the position he plays, he was poor, and his body language suggested mentally he is struggling - second half dispossessed and the player looked dejected to distressed. That is setting up an individual to fail.

Massengo looked like he wanted to play, running past a dormant Diedhiou to put some pressure on Norwich players. He is a kid doing adults and seasoned pros running.

Move out Palmer and Diedhiou, and with one or two of the above fit the picture alters. Move out Wells stick with Palmer as a ten the pictures alters again. Wells out Diedhiou in the picture alters ..

Its going to be interesting to see what happens in the near future. I would like to see some storming from Mr Holden. These are my players, this is my spine and thanks for your time and effort but its time to go.

And Norwich were very good to watch. As expected movement, making angles, composed on the ball, players at ease in familiar roles. A lesson in more than one way there for BCFC.

Blimey, I agree with most of that.....I think we have most of the players, it's how they're played....Dean needs to be a bit move adventurous

I thought we were only OK against Preston, great for the first 30 minutes without creating a chance (obviously apart from the set piece goal) in their box, totally outplayed for the next 30 minutes and gradually assumed more control in the final 30 minutes helped by Vyner's fluke goal.

I view our wins against Preston, Wycombe and Portsmouth as papering over the cracks, because we do not create anywhere close to enough chances in the box, which is where Wells is at his best. Classic example came in the first minute of last nights game, we break quickly and Palmer makes a great cross field pass to Rowe, who feeds it to Vyner who passes back to Rowe but 2 yards behind him straight into touch, all on the edge of the Norwich 18 yard and under no pressure.

But what we don't have and haven't since promotion is a midfield organiser/leader who can thread balls to strikers like Wells and Martin in the box + not enough steel in midfield.

I agree in the main. We all saw how the Norwich players never stopped moving, yet Palmer and Diedhou always seem dormant, and only start showing when the ball is nearby; therefore, are always second to it from an already moving Norwich player. They don't have the movement and speed of footballing brain to trouble players at this level, and Palmer has no fight, he gives up way too easily. As someone, I think Jiffie said yesterday, he will drift down the leagues over the next few years, which is such a waste of talent, much as JET did.
A few on here were very critical of Weimann earlier this season, but he is quite literally the only option we have (maybe Semenyo) that provides pace and energy to the side, and imo is missed the most from all of our injured players. Wells was not a mistake to purchase, how DH is using him is the mistake.

I agree with that too!! I know LJ tinkered too much, but think until we get that midfield player, Dean needs to try other things, when what he puts out isn't working..

I don't see Walsh as the midfield general tbh, and I don't know enough about Williams to comment fully, so it seems DH has overlooked this as well, or, after 4.5 years as the assistant, and, now Head Coach, he doesn't see it is the problem our fans do?

Out of our current bunch we don't have that midfield 'general', so 1for is right; we need to try and find the best possible formula with who we have.
Injuries haven't helped at all, but even with everyone fit we still don't have that person - unless Williams is it and we just don't know it yet.

    Mr Holdens front foot football?

Bristol City let Norwich win. It was similar to premier league clubs v Man City in the past. You are too good, we will not lay a glove on you. A kid could have been stuck in Norwich's team and he would easily make a few passes. The game was a soft touch, a gimme. That is wholly negative. Its disappointing to see a team not wanting to compete with the best in the division.

Weinman has energy, Nagy, Massengo, Walsh (?) etc .. Put bodies on the park who have energy to get around the opposition. Players that do not give up easily and give opponents space and time. Watching BCFC second half players were going trough the motions. There is something there beyond systems and formations which the coaches hat can be hung on - That is unacceptable, the expectation, the non negotiable (front foot) behaviour is you will work to be in the XI, you as a basic (front foot) get in their faces.

Taking away technical aspects I like the idea that you highlighted, we ship out the inherited dross and DH can say,' These are my players, this is my spine.'

I note that in last nights first team there were 2 DH signings only and only 1 DH man in the subs, when he can own the squad, we can say, his players, his tactics and make true judgements, I'll say it again, MA get into gear and let's have some activity.

    Blame Dean?
    I do and I don't.

I blame him for thinking by loading forwards it will increase our goal scoring chances. Especially our so called fox in the box playing out wide. Obviously there are other options with regard to set ups.

I have sympathy for the poor squad he inherited. 9 of the starting 11 last night were pre Holden signings and also the 3 subs that came on.
The the other 2 who played last night are a free transfer and a loan.

I think, in fairness, Holden should be judged when his signings are fit. Should also keep in mind the level of signings compared to the last 4 years.

I've read posters offering different options with existing players.
I can't agree, the players, apart from Bentley, Kalas and Mawson aren't up to the Championship top end.
Moving deckchairs on a sinking ship doesn't work.

I agree with most of this but would add Nagy (who is fighting a losing battle on his own in midfield) Wells and Martin (who must be suicidal at the lack of scoring opportunities, in fact take Martin and Semenyo out of the equation with their assists and we would probably be bottom of the league, poor bastards are expected to score and to provide for themselves).

All his signings bar Williams are fit by the way.
