Can we not just all agree that Kenny was a superior player to Fergie but that Fergie is a superior manager to Kenny ? Rather than try to disprove each others post whilst ignoring the glaringly obvious
I've never said Alex isn't the most successful manager of the modern age - much of which is because he was shown the forbearance of the board in this patience in 1989-90 period. Kenny is being derided for his performances at Celtic and Newcastle when in both cases he was given little time or patience to achieve anything. Of course I have grudging respect for Alex's achievement, although sometimes I think he can be quite snide in his treatment of those he considers his inferiors, like reporters, who he has been caught on mic trying to get banned from press conferences, or carrying on the feud with the BBC over something shady his son was up to. Something which his son could have taken to court to get sorted out (suing for libel is de-rigour these days, or getting a super-injunction), but for whatever reason thought it better to simply break his contractual obligations to speak to the media post game.
St Mirren Aberdeen. Both sides were the best they had ever been under AF. He certainly did have a rep for building great sides ( remember I said in terms of the clubs own history )
Because Kenny is always polite with media isn't he ? There's a thread praising him on your board every other week for being dismissive to someone in the media.
Yes kenny is always polite to the media. When they are being silly he dismisses them - POLITELY unlike a manager in the North West who is rude even when asked reasonable questions.
Only cocks like you would not be able to recognise that Dalgliesh has not sesigned as Liverpool manager and therefore has the possibility of surpassing Fergusons tally. It's a question of logic so that's why you can't understand
You talk utter, utter, utter ****. Always. You're a pathetic, deluded envious idiot. I've a degree in civil engineering and am nearly chartered. All you've got is a degree in being a boring ****. I understand football you ****ing idiot, clearly unlike you.
When is Dalglish retiring? Hes gonna need 20 years to catch up to fergie thats for sure. 80? Back in your hole idiot. Come back out when you stop making stupid comments. PS - Bla bla bla your an idiot UIR bla bla bla <<<<< saved you writing some more **** next time dave, thank me later.
Kevin Phillips hit 113 in 208 at Sunderland and Andy Cole got 93 in 195 at United and no one is calling either of them world class, medal count or not. At the end of the day Fowler was a great striker (not world class), and when he was at his prime he was better than Cole or Phillips. But he didn't last and didn't do justice to his talent. Maybe with a youth set up better than Souness' he would have? I wouldn't say the nucleus of a title winning team - Robson was the only Atkinson signing that regularly featured in the PL winning side iirc. And if you check the figures, SAF's net spend was only £18 million from 1986 to 1995. So he spent less than Dalglish did in just four years at Blackburn. Considering their starting points is a fair point, but both managers replaced pretty much their entire teams, so what they started with didn't really matter that much, and the ability of Dalglish to sign players like Newell and Hendry whilst in the old Division 2 made promotion pretty much a formality. But it wasn't an emergent strategy. SAF's strategy has always been to attract the best young players he can find, train and develop them as best he can, and put them into the team when they are ready. He did it at Aberdeen and did it at Utd. Or are you claiming that one day we woke up to a phone call from Eric Harrison saying "you know what boss, these young lads we have are world class, sell all our existing players and stick 'em in the team!" SAF actions, including how he has raised and nurtured not only world class players like Giggs, Becks and Scholes but also journeymen like Fletcher, Evans and Gibson who would have been flogged by other clubs in favour of imports long ago, clearly show that he has a deliberate strategy of attracting and training youth players in order to integrate them into the team. That's the whole point - he didn't have better options because he had deliberately chosen to bring the youth players through and thus had not tried to sign any other players. The fact that over the 94/95 season he was willing to sell or release Hughes, Robson, Ince, Wallace, Phelan, Blackmore, Dublin and Lee Martin and only replace them with Andy Cole and David May showed that putting the kids into the team was a deliberate plan, not an "oh **** what shall we do, let's try these young kids and hope" effort. Apart from Aberdeen, where he built a title winning side then rebuilt them into a CWC and double title winning side a few years later. Roy Hodgson also hasn't resigned as West Brom manager. So on that basis we can't say Dalglish is a better manager than him? After all, he could still surpass Dalglish's tally. Darron Gibson could also surpass Dalglish as a player, so obviously we can't say Dalglish was better than him either. That's a very poor argument by your standards Dave.
As for Dalgliesh, he could go on to beat Paisley's record with Liverpool. Until he either does that or fails to do that then my argument is valid.
You said the same about him taking over fergies record. Lets look at it shall we Dave? 60 year old Kenny Dalglish, back in football after an 11 year gap. You do know he will need at least 8 years. Thats if he wins the title every year for 8 years to equal SAF's record. 16 years if its 1 every 2 seasons. 160+ years at the rate Liverpool win titles since their last success. Even SAF and Paisley couldnt win 8 in a row. Still think he will take over? he could take Paisleys but even then, unlikely.
But irrelevant in terms of the debate about the managerial capabilities of either Ferguson or Dalgliesh
