    Barnsley v Swansea City

    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Date - 16 January 2021
    Kick off - 19.45
    Venue - Oakwell

Following their workmanlike 2-0 away victory in the FA Cup Third Round at Stevenage, next up for Steve Cooper’s Swansea squad is a return to Championship action away at Barnsley.

Last Saturday, goals from Wayne Routledge and Viktor Gyokeres proved enough for the Swans who booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Stevenage.

A much-changed Swans side dominated the opening stages, and Routledge - who turned 36 years of age this week - headed home after just seven minutes.

Indeed, perhaps Wayne Routledge had held a decade-long grudge and finally got his revenge as this match marked the 10-year anniversary of Stevenage defeating Premier League Newcastle in the FA Cup’s third round, with Routledge among those playing for the losers that day.

Whatever, Steve Cooper's men continued to create chances early on, with George Byers, Gyokeres and Jordon Garrick having opportunities.

The hosts responded well and created numerous openings of their own, but after failing to equalise, Gyokeres headed home his first Swansea goal five minutes after the restart to put the away side in command.

Stevenage had a chance to set up a tense finish after Gyokeres conceded a penalty late on, but Freddie Woodman made a stunning save to keep out Luke Norris' effort.

As a result, the Swans progressed into the next phase of the competition to stretch their unbeaten run in all competitions to five matches.

The following day, Michel Helik's header and a stoppage-time penalty from Cauley Woodrow also sent Barnsley through to the fourth round of the FA Cup as they edged out Tranmere.

After dominating the first half without scoring, the hosts finally broke the deadlock as a flat cross from Herbie Kane was headed in by Helik.

Woodrow sealed the tie from the spot deep into four minutes of injury time.

James Vaughan had Tranmere's best chance but his low shot was well saved by Barnsley goalkeeper Brad Collins.

The Swans have played Barnsley on 75 previous occasions, winning 36, losing 24 and drawing 15.

In the corresponding fixture last season, the teams drew 1-1 at Oakwell:

Turning to Saturday evening, I’m going for the same result as last season at Oakwell, namely a 1-1 draw <cheers>

Cheers Taff , a draw wouldn't be a disaster and with the majority of the first 11 rested and hopefully raring to kick on I'm going for 0-2

With both teams still in the FA Cup, the Swansea v Brentford match has been postponed
