I sincerely hope Alex retires soon, for his own wellbeing - its not a stress-free job, and working into your 70's tends to equate with raised mortality rates. It would be an unfortunate end to a man who, for the faults we at our end of the East Lancs see in him, has been a very successful manager, and certainly the most consistently successful in the last 20 years.

    He wont stick around.

hes there to steady a sinking ship. Hes done that, now just to get you back on track and hire some idiot from abroad like Rafa ( I really really can see you guys getting him back ) and start the same process again.

The fact hes NEVER stuck around, regardless of reasons means hes unlikely to change now, hes 60, doesnt have anywhere near the hunger for the game SAF has ( hence why fergies been in the thick of it for 5 decades now and dalglish has just come back into the frontline ) and imo will retire before fergie.

UIR - once again I refer you to the point about passion for a club - Kenny has it for Liverpool. To suggest that he'd walk away is foolish. Unless of course you think that we're going to have another disaster as we did in 1989? Remember that is why he walked away - the stress of being the focal point for an entire community...

Elsewhere, he'd not walked away, Celtic and Newcastle sacked him - and at Blackburn new managers weren't comfortable coming in with Kenny as Director of Football - much the same way Matt Busby cast a long shadow over Manchester those years ago, so Kenny agreed to leave.

Newcastle sacked him for ruining the club on the pitch. Never did they recover even with the great Sir Bobby Robson at the helm. Celtic were desperate to get rid of him and Dalglish was desperate to stay.

Why on earth did he move upstairs at Blackburn? Bizzare decision is all I can say. Can you shed some light on it?

waht a load of hot air from the mancs!

If any of them had even bothered to read my original post then they would have seen that after suggesting that ferguson was lucky I the said that he had followed that by building successful sides.

My contention that he was lucky was expanded very well by posts 138 and 139 from redconn and St. I totally agree with them. It was never a matter that the KIDS were ready, it was a force majeure that paid off for him handsomely.

Swarbs at least should be able to understand the process of emergent strategy (I doubt that either UIR or Ruffian could understand it!) as defined by both Herzberg and Williamson and its relationship to the 'learning organisation'. Frankly, Ferguson took a gamble, it payed off and he learnt from the process. Luck had its part to play.

In the same way so did Shankly. He took a little known centre half from Scotland who was untied in English football and built his team (with all his plans for it) around Ron Yates - his rock. It worked and helped define the progress of Liverpool sides for the next 2 decades. Other clubs have tried the same tactic and failed - the name of Ian Ure springs to mind.

    Oh I dont know....

perhaps the huge gap between his last job ( celtic ) and his current job ( Liverpool ).

    11 Years was it.

Someone with real passion for the game wouldnt be able to stay away that long.

Kenny had all but retired from management but his beloved Liverpool ( never questioned his passion for the club, just the game ) struggling and needing a hero. Very easy job for Kenny to do and he knew it. Go in, get the backing of everyone from the off and try and steady the ship. With backing from the owners this was a relatively simple job. One he did well.

He only signed a 2 year contract aswell. Why not longer?

So now he doesn't walk away from clubs? <doh>

Be consistent, will you. Honestly, its like trying to nail down jelly!

As I said before - read Kenny's book. It'll enlighten you about his time at Blackburn and all else.
    A link to help you...<ok>

To even claim luck was the major factor in fergies fledglings shows just how stupid your post was.

Anyone who reads it will laugh there faces off. It was that bad. One of the worst posts on this entire site and there has been some ****.

theres no defending it, no method to your madness. the fact is you tried to downplay fergies record and its failed miserably.

Fergie is a footballing god. The managerial equivalent to Pele and Maradona combined. Its not even a debate.

I would only offer 2 year contracts, managers come and go as much as players, you know this UIR. Just look at what we had to pay with Rafa due to signing some long extension ( again I wish he would have stayed regardless but thats not here nor there). If something goes wrong it is a smaller pay-off and maybe he just wants to get the show on the road for a younger manager to come in, who knows.

So he tried to walk out on Blackburn, eventually got his wish albeit by moving upstairs. Theres your walking away.

he got sacked from Newcastle. Single handedly brought them down.

He got chucked out of Celtic, desperate to get rid of him.

His reasons for leaving pool are both admiral and not. Depends how you look at it and what sort of person you are. Everyone deals with bad situations differently.

Not the best looking record tbh is it?

Sum up why he left blackburn, health? bored?, didnt feel up to it? below him?

Your reply merely shows just how stupid you really are - not merely blinkered but blatantly unintelligent!

Which for me is fine. If he is getting up there in age ( which he will be) he would have done a great service to the club and huge thank you would be needed for him. If we are back to challenging and in Champions league again I can see a Klopp, manager from Mainz ( forgot his name), ancelloti has hinted at it, and no doubt there will be some other managers making their mark in that time.

Everything I wrote was a simplified version of him leaving.

Celtic were desperate. Kenny even offered to stay on upstairs while the new guy came in and if he flopped kenny would stand in again. I mean come on. Whats this about?
