I wouldn’t be against that so long as the elderly and vulnerable had been fully vaccinated to achieve maximum protection.
The post I put on this morning shows that the virus can still be caught up to 3 weeks following the first Pfizer jab.
My wife and I will not be reducing our isolating practices until we are fully vaccinated, by which time we might have some feed back on the effect of Covid on people who are vaccinated, if any.

Yes, but only if Mrs No7 & I have had it (we will by the time she gets it in the US).

Mrs No7 though is insisting on the Oxford one and will refuse any other as (maybe rightly) she believes the fact that it needs to be stored in a fridge, rather than in a special freezer means that the dose will probably work more reliably as we can't guarantee the other has been stored correctly. Me I'm not fussed and know not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

My understanding was that the virus could still be caught after 2 doses, as it's not designed to stop you catching it, it's designed to mitigate the effects when you do catch it

Be very cautious St Bad, if you do relax maintain distancing, avoid crowded times of day and distrust anything the government tells you. That's our M.O. here in the Netherland where similar levels of (in)competence have been displayed. Test and trace not working and the last in EU to start vaccinations. I'm not paranoid but the bastards are out to get me. Stay safe and sane. Lots more to find out about vaccines and treatments as they are used across the populations worldwide
You may have seen this from https://www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n18 useful links to other information.
"A paper published in the New England Journal of Medicine stated that the efficacy of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 52.4% between the first and second dose (spaced 21 days apart).5 However, in its “green book” Public Health England said that during the phase III trial most of the vaccine failures were in the days immediately after the first dose, indicating that the short term protection starts around day 10.6 Looking at the data from day 15 to 21, it calculated that the efficacy against symptomatic covid-19 was around 89% (95% confidence interval 52% to 97%). Meanwhile, Pfizer has said that it has no evidence that the protection lasts beyond the 21 days."

I've got a chance of getting the jab at Epsom racecourse! I'm a front line worker (youth justice) and Surrey council have agreed with the NHS that we can have any surplus at short notice. Fingers crossed!

Anyone else finding themselves drinking more during this lockdown?

I'm finding it much harder this time round, partly cos weather's **** now probably, but I'm really ****ing struggling mentally at the minute.

I'm not really getting drunk much, but I've had at least 2 cans on probably 10 of past 14 days. I know it's **** for everyone but finding it really hard living alone; I'm really lucky that I have my nipper 3/4 times a week but it's not the same as company with adults.

Worst thing is that I know it's not an issue right now, but, especially as most of you know about my previous issues with drink, I can genuinely see my downfall playing out over the next month or two but feel powerless to stop it.

Sorry for long and miserable post but just feel ****e at the minute. ****ing meh.

We only drink on on a Friday and Saturday, too easy to drink in the week with us both on furloughed. It is tough I must admit with being bored.
When your feeling slightly down and your lads not there, can’t you ring a mate or family member so you have some interaction with someone?

Don’t be too hard on yourself Libby. We can all turn a bit inwards this time of year. I had a month off the booze November, and it’s slipping back up again! Don’t know if you get exercise, but even a walk I find helps. If you read, good fiction is a good escape, or get some decent box sets on the go. Tough times.

Sorry you are feeling it. Somehow, I am managing to keep dry January going, though it is tough and I struggle on my 'trigger times' (normally whilst having my evening meal). It helps that Mrs No7 is home 24-7 as she is furloughed, as although we bicker, there is always someone there. I have noticed though that as a normally positive person I am getting negative about loads of stuff - I think i may do what i did back in April/May and just stop watching the news.

At least you have the not606 family to entertain you though <laugh>

It is tough. I drank a lot the first lockdown but like you, not getting pissed but one or two beers or a shared bottle of wine with the wife.

The thing that has helped me the most has been exercise. In 2020 (and I was away for most of the first two months) I cycled over 5,000 miles. It has helped my health, mental health, fitness and stress management. The side benefit of losing 2 Stone has been pretty good too.

    I’ve pm’d you

I have never set goals before, but this week a friend of mine suggested I do it. I’ve written some down and they’re fairly basic and simple, but it actually made me feel good writing then down.

It’s just another thing to try

We have a revolving 4 month plan. From everything from work to what we need to do around the house. Seems to work well and keeps us busy. As you say it feels good to actually write something down.

    Cheers WKS.

I've got back into reading fiction over past year or so which does help but when feeling really low struggle with concentration.

I've mentioned a few times on here that I've had on n off issues with alcohol over the years. When I did that year off it really helped n was genuinely one of best things I've ever done. It's just lockdown which is ****ing it up.

I do try and do a fair bit of exercise even if only a walk. Even ignoring lockdown I'm a strong believer that being active is one of the best tonics for poor mental health.

Yeah this mate <ok> It will do you the world of wonders.

Proven to lift mood as exercise produces endorphins and dopamine. Plus if you're a hippie like me you might spot a nice flower or something when you're out and about.

Cheers for responses all. Can't respond to all but I've read them n appreciate it.

Sorry for bringing mood down but sometimes it's easier to offload on 'strangers' than people close to you who have their own issues.

One of the good things about this place bro. Even though we're all a pack of ****s at times, everybody on here is decent and will lend you an ear when **** gets real.

And you're right, sometimes it's easier to sound off with folk who are removed from your everyday life.

    Take care mate x
