A nurse in South Wales tested positive for Covid on 8th January.
He should have had his second Pfizer jab on the 5th January, but it was cancelled.
We know that the first vaccine only gives partial protection from the virus, so is this a warning, especially where frontline staff are concerned, that the jabs MUST be given in accordance with the manufacturers data?

Ah, true. My bad, but then it will have been 3 weeks since the first, which emphasises that partial protection might not cut it.

Yeah I wasn't neccesarily disagreeing with you, just checking my memory was right.

Do we know if they're symptomatic? As I don't think it stops you catching it either.

No one is saying that one dose is as good as two doses....just that it is better for more people to have some protection when the disease is spreading rapidly. Now whether nurses and doctors (who are far more exposed) should be the exception and get two doses is a valid question. In this cited case the nurse must have caught the disease after having the first dose, so unclear whether the second dose would have helped.

So far as l know vaccinated people can carry and transmit the virus. Hence the need for a comprehensive accurate and reliable test trace and isolate program which is conspicuous by it's absence despite billions being spent.

Ah yes that'd be the one. The one that along with vaccinations and treatments (good news here https://www.bbc.com/news/health-55639096) would be the cornerstone of ongoing virus management in the future. It's not going away, has to be lived with.
This bunch of inept incompetents are in contention for the world meat beating championships although facing a big challenge from the Trumpanzee and mad dog Rudi Guli across the pond.
