I'd imagine everybody would all be happier and especially in this region as we could well still be a premier league club...

all of europe has started to inoculate, but at different rates. The at risk% also differs, by quite a bit so the % inoculated needs viewing in that context. So while UK is ahead on inoculating, it is also too high on cases & deaths.

I was in and out of Sheffield city centre on Sunday until late at night , what I saw was groups of people mingling and walking around the city without a 2 metre gap between them, also standing in groups chatting on the streets and doing nothing. Non wearing masks either, wtf are they thinking

Very good article in the telegraph today, and very damning on the PM and his ministers in their approach.
The scientific advice is not up to speed, and they have ignored the independent advice of others
Hindsight I know, but they should have figured this out a long time ago and heeded all the warnings which were evident globally.

I agree, it's nothing under normal circumstances.

However this is the PM who's telling the public to stay home/stay local and is seen 7 miles from home with a security team alongside.

No big deal but many will think 7 miles isn't local ...

... no one seems to have a clue what it means tbh.

****ers, mate. The news was showing last night the police busting pubs who were having illegal lock-ins. Too many people are not sticking to the rules so the virus is clearly going to continue spreading through communities regardless of what rules are put in place.

This is a big part of the problem.

Big fines should've been levelled from the outset ...

... we all know there are endless idiots who'll take advantage.

After 80,000 dead the police are now saying it's time to crack down, I'd have said that time was March last year tbh.

Sorry mate I was more concerned with countries that end up doing nothing will they always be in a sort of lock down as it won’t go away by itself so whenever they all start to mingle it will probably just flair again?

Anyone who wants to come to the UK needs to be tested.

At the moment you have to stay local to your home but you can fly in from the most affected parts of the world.

If our borders had been closed from the start if would've stopped many infected people arriving.

If you don't want to be tested on your way back from holiday go to Cullercoats.

I’m not getting my point across very well I don’t need to go on holiday as I believe I live in the best place in the world I mean like countries who have malaria and other diseases will they always have it until everybody is finally inoculated or will they just keep getting flare ups all the time
Ps I am not talking about this country.

    Tbh I don't know.

Things like malaria are transmitted by insects and new mutations bypass the drugs in time.

Things like Covid are different because it's easier to vaccinate people than millions of mosquitos.

    Speaking of malaria...

    Malaria is transmitted by mosquitos.
Studies have shown that mosquitos are attracted to beer
    Only female mosquitos bite people
ergo beer makes men more attractive to females <cheers>:1980_boogie_down:<ale>

There is a programme to issue the Oxford vaccine to low and middle income countries at cost price, I assume after we meet our vaccination targets.

The reason, I read is that failure to vaccinate allows the virus to mutate, so it’s more cost effective to get the vaccine out there than allow the mutations.

Just look at Polio, mate. That was rife over here once upon a time and it's almost eradicated from the world now because of vaccines. It's still going in a few countries, Pakistan, Afghanistan and maybe one or two others. This is down to them being largely anti-vaccination because of the conspiracy theories over there that the West will give them harmful vaccinations.

At a wild guess, I'd imagine Covid is here to stay for decades, at least. The elderly and vulnerable could be getting a covid jab once a year along with their flu jab and masks will become the new normal for everybody during winter times.
