It is sad H. From what I see a number come over on holiday for a couple of weeks, have a great time in the sun and wish to then live here. The reality of course is rather different. The winter, although short, can produce some very cold periods and if you have to work it is as difficult to find it here as in the UK. Building projects invariably cost more than you think that they will and if you live somewhere with unhelpful neighbours then you can become isolated.

We had been coming to France on holiday for more than twenty years before we bought our house and then a further six years of part-time work on it before we took the plunge to come here full time. We had a very good idea of what we were letting ourselves in for and it seemed the right way of approaching a bit of a life change.

My ex in-laws who live in the Charente Maritime (the ones with the gites) knew exactly what they were getting into as his former business partner had done a similar thing about 15 years beforehand and they made regular trips down there before they eventually moved.

That's the way to do it...i think if my parents had decided to move, they'd have been well prepared too...thankfully they didn't. Their house there was such a long journey door to door...!

Evening all, back from watching my brother and his classmates playing 5-a-side at the school. I even got to referee. Its a joy to see some good sports and no competition just friendly fun.

    :) sounds good Dan.

i'm just getting ready to start the annual 25 hour fast. Being Jewish has it's moments! I'm just glad that this year there's an International weekend...last year it coincided with a rather huge scoreline at Millwall. It's not easy checking results in the middle of a service!
