Expected Bristol City team to face Portsmouth: Alfie Mawson a huge boost for Robins Our predicted side to play in the FA Cup third round on Sunday. https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/expected-bristol-city-team-face-4871537 Predicted Bristol City XI: O'Leary; Mariappa, Vyner, Kalas, Rowe; Bakinson, Nagy, Massengo; Wells, Martin, Semenyo
Match stats Bristol City have progressed from two of their three FA Cup ties against Portsmouth, though they lost the last such meeting in the 2008-09 third round. Portsmouth have lost just one of their last six meetings with Bristol City in all competitions (W2 D3), with the last two meetings between the sides in the 2011-12 Championship campaign ending goalless. Bristol City have progressed from four of their last five FA Cup ties against sides from a lower league, though were knocked out at this stage last season by League One Shrewsbury. With nine goals scored across the first two rounds, Portsmouth are the highest scoring team so far in the 2020-21 FA Cup (excluding qualifying rounds).

That 45 minutes was Bristol City in a nutshell. Diedhiou did some great stuff and scored a great goal, but yet again a yard behind for crosses into the 6 yard box and his hold up play is appalling, even receiving a shout from the bench on about 39 minutes when he was dispossessed far too easily of " f****** tackle man". Semenyo really does need to learn some composure. Adelakum looks totally out of his depth. Midfield are competing but not controlling things. Their goal was down to Marriapa being far too weak during the build, Bakinson didn't help by turning his back in his attempted block. Marriapa and Rowe are full backs and not wing backs which isn't great from an attacking point of view. Mawson looks great (thank god he did most of his rehab at Fulham, strange that how he healed so quickly from a serious injury and operation?) Kalas made a terrific double block as well. Nic Eliasson looks physically different to when he played for us.
So glad I didn’t have to pay to watch this, do you think we practice moving forward or just backwards? We don’t have one player capable of making a decisive pass!
A win in the cup is the only result that matters but Jesus that was a papering over of the cracks result if ever there was one. We are totally and utterly and shamefully useless in and around the opponents box, our creativity is shocking. Our full backs to my mind are not athletic enough to act as wing backs and ain't that good defensively. On the plus side Mawson and Kalas were terrific and Moore as well made some great last ditch blocks when our poor midfield or poor full backs were not doing their jobs adequately. Adelakum does not look good enough at this level. I thought Vyner looked terrific and athletic in his centre midfield role when he came on, I would play him there in place of Bakinson at the moment. I can't wait for the BS post match interview, things I don't want to hear are, we were the better team, we played well or I would like to thank the rehab team for their work with Alfie Mawson.
cheers ROD for the link nice one by Fammy.. their goal what a bummer but all came good in the end Thought Nagy was not his usual self had 3 or 4 passes straight to opposition in patsy style when we had a good move on ...Martin was good and a nice birthday present from CITY.... SHAME ABOUT NO CROWDS especially for minnows who dip out on gate money...
**** showing and lucky to get a win. That side was as strong as it could be and Pompey bossed the second half. Brentford-Preston-Norwich next
Quite enjoyed the match, a very interesting team I thought when I saw the team sheet. To be honest I was resigned to we would lose, but I also hoped Famara Diedhu would score a hatrick! I thought Antoine Semenyo and Tyreeq Bakinson played very well, my man of the match has to be Chris Martin. With no crowds allowed would love see us get a few lower league clubs in the next 2 or 3 rounds!
Two quality goals, as for the rest ... well . Portsmouth bossed it in the second half and were unlucky to lose, if we don’t improve we’ll be battered Weds
