Players already on a higher wage prior to the wage cap coming into effect were allocated the average wage (IE £1700) toward the wage cap going forward.

    Apparently it's
Overspend between 0-2% you pay 50p for every £1 over
Between 2-4% you pay £1 for every £1 over
Between 4-5% you pay £3 for every £1 over.
But it does say severance pay that is paid to end a players contract does not count in the salary cap so paying grigg off could be an option.
Also says of you loan a player out say grigg, if the loaning team paid 3k off his wages we could use that 3k on a new players wages

That’s good news (I thought it was just for this season) cheers. I meant to put on my post ‘unless there’s something I’m missing’. There obviously was.

It's absolutely ridiculous and totally unfair that a club of our size with much more income than all the other clubs in this league has to abide by these rules.
How is it fair that we have the same wage bill as Accrington Stanley and the likes

The most unfair thing about the whole salary cap which hasn’t really been mentioned, is in future any team coming down from championship has huge advantage. Their existing contracts will all count as “average” and so if the likes of Derby or Sheff Wed get relegated then they can keep a lot of their higher earning players.

Essentially the cap will massively reduce the quality of L1 and L2 to allow the epl and championship clubs more security. Getting straight back into championship after relegation will become easier but even more important than it was for us. And staying in the championship upon promotion to it will get even more difficult than it already is.

Thanks. Not worth breaking the rules then unless money is no object (wouldn’t be good business).

I wonder what Johnson was talking about when he said the rules were complex with regards to paying players’ contracts up.

And why does it not affect clubs in the leagues above us?

Whatever happened to the PFA action against a cap on the salaries of their members?

I don't know how it can be legal, to tell a company they are not allowed to use the money that they generate to improve their that company, its one of the most ridiculous rulings ever made.

I'm not sure he did say that outright, I think he said something along the lines that some of the options they'd thought of weren't going to work because of complexities in the rules, and I for one assumed he was talking about paying off contracts.

I hope we can do that it'd solve all our problems as long as Dreyfus is happy to make the investment.

The biggest crime is that the EFL put it to the vote, the same as they did for the COVID end to the season. They are cowards who will hide behind the clubs voted for it and they knew who would vote for what. Both votes were foregone conclusions and therefore unfair, in effect they were rigged

This salary cap will make it extremely difficult for L1 clubs to go up and stay up.

Yes It makes it virtually impossible.

But this cap is so blatantly on the wrong side of the law, that we have to assume that clubs not fighting it agree with it. You would assume that the idea that a business cannot spend it's own money for fear of getting an advantage over another company who has less cash would not last a morning in court.

I would like to hope that the new owners on the way here see the difficulty and take this absurd soviet style redistribution theory to court and get it binned.

Otherwise the way back is far far steeper than it ought to be for any club.

“ I hope my info is wrong, no one will be happier than me, I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong “ blah blah blah.

in the meantime I’ll give myself a massive hard-on winding people up on a message board because I’ve got nowt better to do with my time.

The deal is done man, get over it.

Sunderland AFC can announce that an agreement has been reached for Kyril Louis-Dreyfus to acquire Stewart Donald’s controlling interest in the club. If approved by the EFL, the deal will see Louis-Dreyfus become chairman at the Wearside club early in the New Year.
