I don't mean completely back to normal; but I'll be to talk to a girl in a pub, or my Son play 'it' with friends come Summer imo.

As for winter I tend to think that it'll never disappear and we'll have seasonal instances of it, but with all of the vulnerable vaccinated then there will be no justification whatsoever for further lockdowns.

It's an international problem needing international solutions. I'm convinced an accurate and reliable test, trace and isolate program is needed along with vaccine and treatment research and development. A CV vaccination and test certificate should be mandatory for any international travel. It could be added to the existing International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis.

I'm intrigued to see how many countries make it mandatory for entry, though that may come much later in the year.

Please could someone explain how the lateral flow test, which detects antibodies to the virus, will distinguish between the antibodies produced when you have the virus, and those produced when you have been vaccinated.

I've had plenty of jabs over the years no reason not to add CV to my certificate. I think it will, in fact it should be mandatory for travel including a test. Vaccination doesn't prevent carrying and transmission.

I can see some countries wanting proof of having the vaccine, if not then they will refuse entry.
Even some travel insurance companies may include it in the price they charge you ......no vaccine = higher premium.

I think it should be a worldwide requirement, including a valid negative test, for any international travel.
This is a new virus capable of mutation as we've seen. Lots of unknowns re the vaccines, how long does protection last? Which suits whatever group best?

On the topic of test and trace, Dido Harding appears to have disappeared.
The Mirror reported that she hasn’t been seen at an actual or virtual meeting since November.

No suggestion that they didn't have passports or tickets....just that the Netherlands have banned entry. Any country can do that and just make you turn round and go home. Perhaps the airport they flew from should have warned them...though must be hard to keep on top of rule changes (though not impossible with modern technology).

Failure to eradicate it is playing a very dangerous game, though. If it does become seasonal, the odds greatly increase that the vaccine will lose efficacy as the virus mutates.

I don't believe eradication is possible though, particularly as the vaccine doesn't seem to stop you actually carrying or transmitting it. How do you eradicate it? Viruses that are this infectious don't tend to disappear.

It may well end up that we have to change the vaccine yearly like we do with the flu one. Still early days in that regard.

Agree....it will be around in one form or another, but hopefully will be manageable. Remember that tens of thousands of people die every year from flu and we hardly give it a thought....apart from annual jabs for the vulnerable. The difference with this disease is that most people will probably have regular vaccinations as it changes, not just the elderly and frail.

This virus so far hasn’t shown any signs of mutating to become a different disease vector, which flu does all the time. So far it’s only mutated in terms of its infectivity. Viruses are not living things, their only way of reproducing is to inhabit and multiply in a host. Vaccination doesn’t stop you becoming infected or transmitting the virus, but it does stop the virus multiplying enough to make you sick. I accept that other animals can also host Covid-19, but if we can get the vast majority of humans vaccinated, that’s a huge step towards eradication.

Just as things can change for the worse very quickly, so they can change equally quickly for the better. All this will be a memory soon

Aim for near-universal vaccination, and provide loads of funding to poor nations to do the same. Might be worth leaving some of the basic stuff like mask usage in place for a little while longer than seems necessary, to completely choke it out.

They didn't fulfil entry requirements i.e. essential travel or EU residence which should have been checked before travel. More fool those that paid for tickets, the requirements are widely publicised in the media and on government websites UK, Dutch and other EU countries.
More here on Brits being refused entry or not allowed to travel.
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...onals-non-essential-travel-brexit-coronavirus
"There were also reports of passengers turned away from KLM flights from UK airports to the Netherlands because they did not have a negative test, their journey did not qualify as essential, or they could could not show proof of Dutch or EU residency."
    This from a Dutch newspaper.
"According to a spokesperson for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, the refused British, who all arrived at Schiphol, were indignant that they were not allowed to enter the Netherlands for a visit."

"They all have a negative PCR test, but they forget the basic rule that it must be a necessary trip, for example for work or due to compelling private circumstances," said spokesman Robert van Kapel of the Marechaussee. "People from a safe country are also allowed to pass, such as Australia or Singapore, but the United Kingdom is certainly not a safe country."

"We have Britons who only want to visit Amsterdam or a man who wanted to fly to Spain via Schiphol to teach his children there to ski. That's just not the intention now," says Van Kapel."
