    Wow,
68K cases reported today in UK and 1325 deaths - the highest one day figure EVER reported. And Friday is *not* normally a peak death reporting day.

    Stay safe everyone.

And to think Boris wanted a 5 day free window over Christmas. There are no words.

My army mate just commented "rather than a rona jab, they'll probably give you an ill-fitting set of Nordic skis"...

The Mayor of London has declared a major incident, as a sign that they are struggling to contain/get to grips with the spread of the virus.
Read that they were admitting 800 Covid cases a day, the equivalent of filling St Thomas’ Hospital everyday.
Have even heard tales of seriously ill people being transported to hospital by the police, because there were no ambulances available.
People really MUST stay at home and give the services a chance to catch up and to then recover.

I walked down part of the A27 near Romsey, today. The bloody police should be pulling in the car drivers and asking then where they are going and is the journey absolutely necessary. There was virtually the same amount of traffic as on a normal day. Bloody ridiculous!

Perhaps they were going to work? Lots of people still have to do that.

I meant the police reaction was a joke. Completely over the top and unnecessary imo.

I thought Dave’s post was the start of a joke, like “an English man, Irish man, and Jock were walking along the A27 today, when...”

I wondered if there was going to be a horse, and the barman asking “why the long face”...

And calling a coffee a “picnic” ...WTAF!!! they could have been doing some real policing elsewhere.

I don't even think it was a coffee - it was a herbal tea from Starbucks.....

So they went to Starbucks first ? Lets see what the facts are in this case before criticising the police. Did they travel 5 miles, or maybe a wee bit more ? Maybe the police are right to make examples of people as a deterrent (and well publicised in this case!) ?

If that is the case, it’s worked. My wife read the article and decided not to call her friend in the next village to go for a walk in the local Forest. What they would have done would be within the rules and wouldn’t involve a stop at a coffee house either but if made her question if it’s worth it.

The bad news is she has suggested we go for a walk later from our house.... Saturday is bike riding day!!!

So we live in a police state now then? If so, not sure that’s a price I want to pay to beat a virus (that will probably only be beaten by vaccines anyway).

Well they're now reviewing the fines after national guidance and rightly so. Same police force who used drones last year too so they've got previous for going over the top.

Reminds me of one of Clive James’ old tv shows, when he showed a clip from Crimewatch New Zealand. Basically, there wasn’t any crime to speak of, so they made a huge fuss about some farmer’s missing tractor, that some school kids took for a joyride.

They were a bit OTT, but we're hardly at Police state levels. Clearly a lot of people have shown disregard (not necessarily those two women) for the current situation.

And the death toll will pass 80,000 today, many of which could have been avoided if people hadn’t behaved like selfish idiots. I’m not applying that to those women either, but people HAVE to take this seriously now, especially now the variant is on the loose.
