Nurses are unable to move between hospitals when all hospitals are full.
The hospitals are full because lockdown came too late, with mixed messaging, not because the lockdown has failed.
A strict lockdown will be the only way to get out of this mess - not a stupid tiered approach as advocated by extreme right wing governments.

I probably should care about London as I live here.
Today our impressive mayor announced a major incident for the city.
(The last time this was used was for the terrorist attacks on the city on 7th July 2005).
The situation is now so bad teaching of medical students in hospitals has been halted so that they can be redeployed to help in any way that they can - possibly to help in the Nightingale Hospital which I understand may be resurrected next week.

And everyone outside of London must take notice of what is happening down here, because it is spreading everywhere very fast. I predict that the North West will be the next hotspot by next weekend.

STRIKE 2 QM - another personal insult. As a gentle reminder - another strike will result in a 1 week ban from this thread.

The world already feels like a better place this morning with no more Trump Tweets possible. Well done Twitter for permanently disabling his account.

America, and in particular its Politicians of all persuasions, need to reflect on how the hell Trump could become POTUS. A terrible failure of the political system.

I think they, like many of the cronies in his party, were too scared to take action before. Now that the end is nigh, it seems more and more people are disowning him. As I said, the whole political system over there needs to change to prevent an idiot like that seizing power again. Probably the one policy of Trump's I would agree with is the whole "drain the swamp" thing. The whole political set up over there is geared towards money. It must be so frustrating for millions of hard-working Americans, whatever their race, creed, sex or ideology.

agree with your assement of the political system they operate under , but draining the swamp was slightly ironic considering that’s who trump and his cronies are , it’s called a meritocracy by the americans , giving credence that anyone can “ make “ it in the land of opportunity, what they don’t say , is all the others who by necessity of the system , can’t make it and are the fodder for low pay , insecure jobs that provide huge wealth to the owners .
The uk is not much different , a system that rewards cronyism and is rigged to ensure a minority party governs with huge rubber stamp , proportional representation would provide a check on that , but capitalism relies on exploitation, it’s how much you think is reasonable , ask Elon Musk ?

Musk is just a workaholic ............... I heard a rumour that, during a recent visit to his new Gigafactory outside Berlin, a reporter asked him in which of the city's luxury hotels he was staying. Musk apparently replied: "None, I'm sleeping here in the factory". Fair play to him though for pioneering electric cars and getting space travel going again. Hardly one to rest on his laurels and not his fault that stock market speculators have made him the richest man in the world. To which he responded: "How strange"............................. "well, back to work"

In the wake of Trump being blocked by Twitter, it will be interesting to see the level of debate around the power and influence of the media - "social" or otherwise. The 1997 Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies" was eerily ahead of its time in depicting the power of the media and how it can be abused.

Why would I care about being banned? It seems on this thread it is only allowed to post dross predictions and go unchallenged. No actually debate allowed. The Left do not want debate because they always lose.

On at least two occasions, Steveo has claimed to be in conversation with “doctors” and “senior doctors” without any corroboration. I have challenged this because I believe that they are a figment of his imagination that suits his argument. On this occasion, I suggested the names of two actresses famous for playing fictional doctors. So I challenged him to name a doctor. The only other possibilities are that Steveo is in fact Matt Hancock or the comments are something steaming that you might find in a field of cattle.

On 2nd April 2020, he “spoke to senior doctors”, who obviously had nothing better to do. Back on the 8th April 2020, all the mortuaries were full and bodies were being stored at ice rinks. When challenged on both occasions, no response.

I see on his latest post that he is claiming that all hospitals are full, which is factually inaccurate. They could also open the Nightingale hospital to increase bed capacity by 4,000. The impressive Mayor of London another example of the inability of the Left to manage finances. His prediction about the North West is yet another regurgitation of estimates that have been made already by so-called experts.

The other day he was posting about how airports should be checking all arrivals for the plague just days after plans were announced by the government to introduce measures requiring arrivals to have a negative test before departing for this country. The day that this new measure started, he was immediately posting how clever he was and they should have done it earlier.

I have no idea whether rudebwoy liked that first post because of what I originally put or because of what the moderators substituted (in which case he probably never read it) but I suspect that he needs to unlike it as the moderator does not get the like.

Debate and challenges are absolutely welcomed, indeed they are what this place should be about. All you need to do is avoid personal insults and name-calling, which I am sure you can manage <ok>

Calm down QM - I can list dozens of doctors that I personally know, but it would be a bit boring to list them all on here.
One that I do pay attention to though is Professor Azeem Majeed who I last met in March (he has been somewhat busy since then). He was concerned about the virus back in February last year. He specialises in epidemiology.

many hospitals here in London are now full.
Ambulances are unable to discharge patients into hospitals and so are being treated in the ambulances.
This means that waiting times for patients to be picked up are getting ever longer.
This is what is meant by the NHS being overwhelmed.

I will be interested to see how the Nightingale hospital is staffed.
If there had been enough staff I am sure that it would have been used before now.

the lockdown as I have been saying is clearly not tough enough - all household mixing should be banned immediately, all cafes, car parks and public toilets closed, and nobody should travel more than 5 miles except for a very good reason.
The number of key workers need to be reduced - there are too many children being offloaded into schools.
If some pupils get behind with their schoolwork that is just unfortunate.

The missus had her first covid Pfizer jab today btw as she works in the NHS. All very straight forward.

You can change the rules as much as you like Steveo but people will still flout the rules as there is no chance the army will take to the streets to enforce rules for example. So we can get tougher but there is no real way to enforce them.

The problem lies with people themselves..taking responsibility for their actions and following socially distancing rules. Too many people don't think enough about this and like to blame everyone else and the government. People just need to think more about what they are doing. I mean the shopping scenes in London on Oxford Street over Christmas we're ridiculous. It's like people were just oblivious to it all, they go home, blame the government and wonder why restrictions are being introduced.. no common sense!

Yes there needs to be more common sense shown by the general public., I agree with that.
However if the lockdown was tougher there would be less opportunities to bend the rules.

An example: i live near a big park. during 1st lockdown the car park, public toilets and cafe was all closed and obviously less people went to it . Now all those things are open and so people are still attending in big numbers.

there has been constant mixed messaging from the government, you cannot deny that.
Only last Sunday Boris Johnson said in an interview that the schools were safe, a day later he closed all of them!
Explain how this is clear leadership?

Why were the schools safe before but not now?

Why did 'Eat Out To Help Out' happen?

Why were people told to have a 5 day xmas party with no rules?

Why were people told we'd be done by xmas?

Why have they only just stopped flights?

So many U-turns over the last 10 months, it's ridiculous.

Because no one has a crystal ball. Hindsight is 20-20 vision. It has been similar everywhere you look because no one has ever been through this before.

Here in Berlin my kids still don’t know, Saturday evening, whether they have to go to school on Monday morning.

There is no guide to any of this and the school situation is far more complicated than Boris saying yes or no - for example with the teachers union saying they don’t want their members exposed to COVID risk. No point schools being open if there are no teachers.

Still, it’s easy to post criticism on an Internet forum isn’t it?

Oddy, whilst its not as easy as some of us might like, surely the key to all of this is clear, consistent and easy to understand regulation? How they have changed the definition of key worker to a level where a higher proportion of children are still in school, is startling, as is the fact our nurseries are still open for all to use.

Unsurprisingly the R is still above (or at best equal) to 1, so more will need to be done.

The issue in the UK is that the veneer of leadership and integrity has long been wiped off this government, and everyone is doing what they think is best for them. I can't blame anyone for this, it might not be what I agree with, but my trust in the government is at an all time low too.

To be fair the schools situation is quite complex. The unions have been calling for schools to be shut yet its obvious that kids in schools benefit families, kids and overall mental wellbeing.

There are no easy decisions to make and I accept the government could be clearer in the messaging at times. But the sign of a good leader is not to be afraid of changing tact and being flexible/changing course where its merited.

These are tough times...no one will get every decision right in everyone's eyes. Lets not forget Boris has overcome coronavirus himself, is still steering the ship and yet amongst all this turmoil has still delivered on brexit.

I don't know about you but I don't need the government to micromanage me as to what I can and can not do. Common sense should prevail and i think the majority of people display this. But as we have seen with protestors, people going to raves etc some people seem incapable of it. The Julian Assange incident in London recently attracted a crowd...most were not wearing a mask. What is wrong with these people? If I were running the country I would round some of these people up and lock them up..but that's gonna happen.. whoever is in power.

Social distancing and wear a mask - that pretty much covers it. If everyone had done that things would look a lot better.
