Good Morning. It's Thursday 7th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds linked with Manchester City youngster

Leeds are prepared to go head to head with Juventus to bring Manchester City academy ace Luke Mbete to Elland Road.

The 17-year-old has been instrumental in keeping 9 clean sheets from ten appearances in the Premier League 2 league and was recently rewarded by a place on the bench in City's win over Chelsea last weekend.

Mbete joined the City acedemy as an U12, and has never looked back. Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the former South London youth.

    Bamford in contract talks

The Leeds hierachy are in talks with Patrick Bamford and his agent about extending his Elland Road contract.

The 27yo has his the ground running this term, notching up 10 goals and two assists from 17 appearances. With only 18 months left on his contract, Leeds may be concerned that vultures will be circling to try and pick up a bargain.

Whilst he continuous to miss more opportunities than he puts away, Bamford has scored as many goals as Harry Kane so far this season making the former Chelsea and Boro fronnt man a hot prospect.

Bamford has 18 months left on his contract, and currently takes home £35k a week.

What package would you offer him?

If a club were to offer 20m for Bamford in the Summer, would you take it?

    Tyler Roberts interest heats up.

A number of Championship clubs including Derby County, Preston, Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City and Bournemouth are set to fight it out for out of favour striker Tyler Roberts. He has 59 appearances to his name, mainly from the substitutes bench, and has netted 7 times.

Leeds signed the 21yo from West Brom for 2.5m two years ago. For someone so young, Roberts has a lot of potential, and is already a first team player for Wales!

Would you sell him to the highest bidder, or extend his contract and send him out on loan?

Sorry guys, deleted content 3/4 of the way through, and had to start again.

I personally think unless a club is willing to stump up 7m, we should keep Roberts, and send him out on loan. He turns 22 next week. That is still really really young for a striker.

I've just seen that former Leeds academy defender Liam Kitching has just signed for Barnsley for 600k. I still can't believe we let him go for nothing. I guarantee he'll stay with Barnsley for a couple of seasons, and they'll flog him off 5 times that.

    Morning all :emoticon-0148-yes:

The Tyler Roberts is young give him time argument is dead. There are plenty of kids who are playing in the Premier League kids of 17, 18 and 19. Roberts is 22 this month and should have progressed but hasn't. He has been BillyBigBollox in the 23s and not well liked by them. He has only played in 63 games mainly off the bench but is now in his 4th year at the club. He has screwed up every chance hes had to shine, and yes some players mature later but we dont have time to waste when there are much better options in the 23s deserving a chance. Hes performances have not increased his value, therefore we will be lucky to get what we paid for him. I want him gone and hope his career picks up and he has a good life, but enough is enough for me.

Just been reading an article on Bamford and how he was worried he had lost his starting place because the club were chasing Rodrigo. He says he knew he had to sort himself out otherwise a player of Rodrigo’s caliber will keep Bamford on the bench. His agent said he spoken to the club and it was said that Rodrigo was being chased because he could play 7 8, 9 or 10. Could be used in a 4-4-2 or anywhere as part of a front 5.

    This bit just for Wakey:

“As soon as I saw him, you could see how good he was. On the ball, he’s brilliant. And you can tell why he plays for Spain. So once I realised that actually there’s a chance that I could play with him, it got me excited.”

So does Bamford deserve a new contract, yes but can we make it linked to goals and performances, or have a sliding escalator clause to reduce his salary on missed chances :emoticon-0110-tongu

I didn't read the article you are referring to Doc, but I did hear the podcast which said exactly the same thing.

10 in 17 for lord bamf yeah he still misses chances but who doesn't I think mane has only scored 2 in last few games so are scousers gunning for him? I've been as frustrated as many with him but he is a good team player and I think he's more suited to prem than championship...I remember when the scum bought Gary birtles from forest when he was scoring a lot, then couldn't hit the barn door for them and flopped, so the lord deserves a new deal.....as for Roberts never been that impressed to be honest if we get more than what we paid I would say goodbye or at the very least get our money back, and as for playing for Wales ....is Tom Jones on standby <confused>

Agreed with most on here. Bamford 100% deserves a new contract, works very hard for the team and scores goals. We can’t ask for much more than that and we’d never get a replacement for 20-30 or probably even 40 million that works as hard and still gets goals. Look at Werner. I know Bamford misses a lot of chances but no striker scores every chance they get.

As for Roberts if we can get anything from 2.5-10 million I’d take it, he looks lazy and uninterested. Loses possession but shows no effort when doing so and surprised Bielsa likes him as that seems like a bit of a attitude problem. Might be worth a loan in the hope that he does well and then we can sell for a nice profit.

On Roberts, I go back to 2018 when we got him from WBA. Why did they let him go especially as they like to build from the academy to save spending multi-millions on new players. WBA plan on bouncing up and down between Championship and Premier. They openly stated it was part of their business model to get their hands on £100m in parachute payments and have the squad contracts state that wages increase on promotion and decrease on relegation.

so if Roberts was so good why allow him to go. He arrived and straight away find he has a split shin bone and ever since he went from one injury to another and has failed to be fit for well over 100 matches since arriving.

I thought Roberts has had some flashes of brilliance but ultimately he has been disappointing. If Bielsa is happy to let him go then "in Marcello we trust."

Turn down any offers. In any case he wouldn’t want to leave.

I’d say no. If he carries on current form he’s a 20 goal a season striker in the PL which should be worth more than 25 million. Even if he only gets 10 a season in the PL that’s a good return for a striker and not something we can guarantee with a replacement. No idea who we’d even go out and buy.

The thing is when Bamford isn’t scoring he’s working for the team which is more than can be said for a lot of strikers who are usually quite lazy. I think when you look at Werner for 50 million and Joelinton for 40 million Bamford is worth keeping as I don’t want us to make the same mistake. I think build up the youth of Gelhardt, Greenwood and bringing in similar youth talent to compete with Bamford or sell the youth on for a good profit.

I’m not saying eventually we won’t need better but Bamford is doing well, in his prime and there’s more pressing positions that need replacement prior to Bamford’s. That’s not to say I don’t want us to get competition for him, I think if the youth team aren’t knocking on the door by the summer and our plans aren’t to buy a CM and use Rodrigo as his competition then we definitively need to buy a striker but not at the cost of losing Bamford.

Why would we want a ManC 17yo?

We've got our own kids knocking on the door, so why bring in this kid to develop him for Manc?

Clearly these rumours are started off deliberately, probably by an agent, & no matter how ridiculous, just to see what interest can be drummed up. Then the clickbait sites copy each other to report it, without them checking if it's in any way plausible. No need, their job is done when people like us click on these stories to find out WTF it's all about.

My thoughts exactly and if we did fancy him its only to backfill a place in the 23s as Cresswell or Casey moves up. We have our own 17yo CB and hes an England player in Cresswell.

I’d say no because we can’t replace him for that much, any player joining will need to prove he is “Bielsa” fit.

I have said before that I respect Bamford's total contribution and his goal tally is exceptional.

    Surprised?

Top scorers in the PL are all, in effect MF players. Salah, Son and Fernandez. He's one goal behind Calvert Lewin and Vardy.
Our real problem is that we don't have a MF like Salah or Son to put those chances away. Hopefully once Rodrigo and Raphinha settle in and get an understanding with the others they'll start banging them in.
    Liverpool number 9 is Firmino.
We don't play a lone number 9, we play a front 3 and they all need to contribute.
We dont get enough out of our CB at set pieces because the delivery is usually **** and they're not the most powerful in the air.
    Bielsaball is a team game.
    My thoughts.
